Major BTZ in the ANG
Anyone know what the minimum time in grade is for a captain to be promoted to Major in the ANG? I know that it is an in-unit thing without a national board so was wondering what the min time as a captain was.

I don't know, but I have another question along those lines...
How do the guard folks feel about their advancement system? I understand some don't have HYT? Does it work out to be fair in the long run or is there some cronyism?
At what rank is a board required? LCOL? Is it a state thing or some national deal?

As far as I know, LtCol and above are "control grades", which means so many per unit. So it is kind of like enlisted in the reserves, someone has to die/retire for you to get promoted. But from what I hear, up to Major it's pretty automatic, which is why I'm wondering what the min time as a captain is...

In the AF Reserves, the min time in grade for Captain is 6 years. It can be waived, though, but I don't know what level of approval is required. Several of the dudes in my squadron just got to pin on Major early, so I know its feasible.
