Drilling at 2 Reserve Units

Drilling at 2 Reserve Units
All Reservists,
Is there any way to affiliate and drill with two units? I'm currently AD with plans of separating and hopes of getting picked up by a reserve transport unit. The reserve component of my AD squadron has asked me to stay on as a reservist. My preference should I get picked up is to go with the reserve transport unit; however, could I do both?
- both units are on the same base
- both units are USN
- I'm not looking to "activate" to a full-time status with either.
Thanks for all answers,
Cubdrick

I've been attacking the same issue for a few months now with AF Reserve, which should be the same rules. You can't be assigned as a Traditional Reservist in two different units, but you can get hired with one unit and work man-days with the other. The fact that they're on the same base makes it even easier. The second unit would have to get the man-days ($), and your assigned unit cuts your orders using those funds. Bottom line is only one unit can own you. Good luck

1. You can only 'join' or affiliate the Navy Reserve once with a set of orders.
2. The orders, like active duty component folks, will have the ultimate destination. In your case, sounds like you want VR.
3. If looking to also be in the SAU with your present platform, don't see it happening. If VR orders, then VR Skipper would have to use various VR budget funding streams to allow you to drill with the SAU at your present platform. From experience, not enough money for that type financing on a regular basis that would satisfy the VAQ CO needs or even NATOPS mins.
If you are looking to do non flying billets, have a small chance of doing a 'cross assigned' billet (VR unit pays, but other unit gets your services.) Nver works in flying billets, but is a tool used in the Reserve Component to shift funding streams where necessary. (However, lots of prerequisites that doubt your situation would meet).
Choose what you want. Can generally switch platforms. i.e. current one first since already trained and sounds like the skipper is recruiting you.
After a year or so and a VR slot opens, get current skipper to tell VR skipper you can transfer and it will be very easy. If you care about further promotions, timing is important for FITREP stacking.

I had a reservist working for me that worked as a TR in two different units simultaneously. Made writing his OPR interesting because I was his reporting official but his best bullets came from his other job.
He worked in a flying capacity for me (F-16's) but on a desk in (NORAD) his other reserve job. He was also on furlough from UAL.
So, I don't know all the ins and outs, but I know it's possible.
This was USAFR not Navy.
He did it for a couple of years and just quit the flying gig a couple of months ago so I can't really ask him what the particulars are.

ADT $ move's around at the CNAFR/Wing level like ants on an anthill...there is no rhyme or reason to it as the FY drags on...but suddenly in August every unit suddenly has a plus up of ADT funds.

BDGERJMN is dead on. We are already 'negotiating' losing/gaining ADT/IDTT funds like we are at the end of 3rd QTR. Hardware units always get the plus up money for a few reasons. One, they generally can burn the money on operational flying thus 'effective' use of dollars. Second, hardware units will predictably use the funds once allocated. Three, Hardware units very flexible, but can still close out and use up the allocation. Navy doesn't like allocate funds for 4th QTR and then they don't get used up. Tougher for non hardware units to use up many dollars on short notice. Much easier for hardware units at Wing level to utilize the funds.
