I'm in an almost identical situation as you. I'm leaning towards retirement. If we decide to stay in, I think my family wouldn't like me very much. I know I'd be pi$$ed off at myself for selling out for more money when I could have stayed flying. I think it's in my family's best interests if I retire and take the pay cut to stay flying.

If it were all about money I wouldn't be on this forum...I'd be on HedgeFundManager.com instead. Good luck.

You're an ex-T-clone and you're "leaning towards" retirement?

You have all ready printed your ticket to 20...why would you not take it? Hell, the TRICARE benefit is going to be worth it in and of itself in this new [.....] world.

There's not a flying job hiring today that would be worth missing out on that. Could be different in a couple years, but if you have 5 or less years until retirement, then press with big blue.

Hacker,

I'm wondering if TRICARE is going to be dumbed down to match the other gov'mint benefits eventually. If you are going to have health care for life anyway, maybe there is more incentive to GET OUT now than before.

Granted--health insurance isn't the only reason to stay or go...lots of variables...but I think it will be a while before we understand all the impacts of this new health care bill.

Not trying to start a political rant...just pointing out things are changing...

I'm sure all military retirees/deps be transitioned to the standard welfare health package eventually. If it's it good enough for them, it's good enough for us, right?

But probably not while there's a war on.

Valid points that I wasn't considering -- especially the idea that now the TRICARE benefit may not actually be a benefit, and may no longer be a pot o'[bronze?] at the end of the line. Crap, thanks for ruining that thought, Albie. Well, at least it would keep retirees and families from 'violating the law' and not having mandatory health insurance.

I can only imagine how the guys who retired prior to the HMO advent in the 1990s felt about the introduction of TRICARE. That must have really chapped their hides.

Hopefully we won't feel that way in a couple years if TRICARE becomes neutered, too.

No, I'm definitely staying 'til 20 (I only have two years left). I'm leaning towards a 20 year retirement versus 20+. Not much flying to be had for the 20+ crowd.
