E-2 from Eisenhower crashes at sea

Controlled bailout of all crewmembers (5) can be accomplished in under 30 sec, after some quick prep. Assuming everybody is already strapped into their seats etc... The whole operation can be completed in under a minute if the aircraft is in relatively stable flight.
I do believe this is the third bailout of an E-2 in its history, this one, the one in 91 and one wayyyyy back in the 70's, a B model. Not bad for a Carrier based aircraft that has been flying the same basic airframe since 1960. Overall, the E-2 has a fantastic safety record, for a fixed wing carrier based aircraft. In 50 years of continous operation you can count the airborne hull losses on your fingers, and have some left over, fingers that is.
Fly safe out there.

Someone can correct me, but the wayyyy back in the 70's was a control issue with the elevators, I think. Of course the wayyyy back in the 70s doesn't sound so wayyyyy back to me. Believe the aircraft was coming from Elizabeth City back to NGU. And there was the RAG bird that was lost after a night CQ launch event just a few years ago.

Word on the news is an insidious oil leak, which is what I heard through the rumor mill. E-2 guys can fill in systems info that would lead to a bailout scenario.

Unfortuntely not good news...
US Navy Ends Search For Missing Aviator
I think that when all is said and done we'll realize that what he did was pretty heroic.
Fair winds and blue skies...continued thoughts and prayers go out to his family on what is a very sad and tragic holiday weekend.
