Default ANG Age Waiver Requests

If I were to request an age waiver or exception to policy for age for the Guard through my local congressional representative, could they make that request to the National Guard Bureau or would they have to make the request to each state that had a unit I was interested in applying to?

Thanks for the help!

Dilla, if you are over 30 you are not going to get an ETP. You started too late. Your congressman does not ask for an ETP. The Guard unit that hired you asks for one and they do not give them out for starting too late. The AD AF actually has to approve them at the request of the ANGB. You also have to get hired first. They give out ETP's for the process getting dragged out beyond anyone's control.

ETP is "Exception to Policy" for those who don't know. It doesn't hurt to ask, but without knowing someone in the decision chain who's going to do the leg work for you, it's pretty hard to get the waiver. However, it doesn't hurt to ask. The first question I'd ask if you came to my squadron would be what took you so long...?

I was picked up by an AFRC unit while I was still under 30, had a sickness in the family that diverted my time away from completing the paperwork in time...I was already close to the age cut-off so the AFRC HQ would not let me board. Nothing my hiring unit could do.

There were some issues with the local officer accessions recruiter, but I do blame myself with not being more persistent with the parts in the process I had more control over.

I have been trying to get an ANG slot since then with no luck. I understand that it's near impossible...just wanted to see if I had any other options with ANG.

Could I have started younger, yes...no excuses for waiting so close to the age cut-off...that's entirely on me.

Thanks for the info.
