Default Separation/Bonus Question

Quick question for the experts. My DEROS from an overseas assignment is 2012 and I have a year left on the pilot bonus (through 2013). If I had a Guard/Reserve unit interested in hiring me, can I forfeit the bonus or does this extra year automatically lock me into another assignment (and thus the PCS commitment associated with the move?). I have no ADSC commitments other than the 1 year remaining on the bonus. Thanks for the help.

Easiest thing to do would be to have your CC request a 1-yr DEROS extension. It depends on several factors as to whether it would get approved.

Thanks for the info. Thought about that too but I'm a potential hire for 2012, not 2013. Simply wondering if I can forfeit bonus on Active Duty to get picked up with Guard/Reserve in 2012 (end of assignment).

Do you still have a copy of the bonus paperwork you signed? It should say what your obligations are there.

Won't help you get out earlier, but PCS commitment for an overseas to CONUS move is only 12 months. Forfeiting bonus....no idea. I kind of doubt it--unless the AF is trying to get rid of officers this week.

Click on the FY11 Force Management Programs. You have to be on a mil computer to get to most of it, but it might have some answers for you. They are waiving up to 18 months of your DEROS right now, not sure about the bonus.

Call this number:1-800-525-0102. The can probably tell you all that you need to know on getting out early

I have FY11 Force Management document that I can e-mail if you want. Send you e-mail in a PM. But from looking at it, anyone with an AFS of 11X are not eligible for Palace Chase or the Limited AD service commitment program

I know one person (11F) in the last year or so who forfeited the last year of their AD bonus, got an AGR Reserve gig, and took the reserve bonus. It's worth a shot to apply.

I should have put a caveat on my post....where there's a will there's a waiver!
