Default Anyone here fly/have flown the AF C-37 (G-IV)

Is there anyone on the boards who has flown or is currenty flying the C-37 (Gulfstream IV) in the Air Force. I'm specifically interested in the unit down at Macdill, but would be happy to be apart of the community anywhere. Just looking for some more info about how to apply and the requirements to apply. Thanks again!

In the other thread you say you are a FAIP. In that case, there is zero, none, nada, zip chance of going to any OSA assignment without doing an MWS gig first. It's simply not possible, at least on active duty. Your active duty first-assignment MWS counterparts rarely, if ever, have a shot at any big OSA (C-37, C-40, C-32). They'd get dibs on one of the good-deal OSAs way before a FAIP. Perhaps a C-21 would be possible, but even that would be really, really tough for a FAIP. You're doing your white jet tour right now- the AF wants to get at least one and likely two MWS tours out of you.

The "application" process is similar to any other non 89th, non E-4B, non B-2, non U-2 assignment. You list it on your dream sheet, pray your boss goes to bat for you, and hope one is available. Everyone and their mom wants them, so you won't get them unless you're an MWS IP at a minimum.

It seems like you are trying to find your way to Tampa at all costs; I don't know your reason so I'm not going to speculate. There's much more out there dude. Plus, you're setting yourself up for career failure if you go from one white jet tour to another. I'd consider getting some real world (MWS) experience.

Sounds good that's kind of what I figured, but have always taken the approach you never know till you ask and read somewhere else that the squadron down there was looking for some young hard chargers to come in and balance the seniority out. Still a pipe dream I'm sure though. Appreciate the info!

Oh dude I have no doubt about that. If it were all about what I wanted I'd be trying to get out to Beale to fly the U2, but I've got some personal things going on with an immediate family member down in Tampa and I'm trying to get down there to help as much as I can. My father who I owe the world to will always come before my career.

I've heard it's possible to get some sort of "hardship" assignment in order to help out a family member- might be worth looking into. It would probably be easier to get to -135s at MacDill than C-37s, just by virtue of the MWS vs OSA assignment.

There are plenty of young, hard chargers from MWS communities who have a hell of a lot more relevant, world-wide experience to bring to the table than a FAIP, no offense. Plus they've been burned out with constant deployments and the overall stupidity that plagues AMC and active duty. Again, no offense, and I'd bet the vast majority of folks down in the C-37 community at MacDill would agree, but your best route would be to go to an MWS, earn some real credibility, work your ass off, become jaded like the rest of us, and then try for a good deal OSA. Like you said though- you won't know if you don't ask!
