Osama bin Laden Kill Site Eyeball

Lots of photos of the site and a partial of the helo, it is evident that great efforts were made to conceal the remains of the wreckage as it was moved off site.

HoursHore 05-04-2011 05:51 AM

I was wondering why they wouldn't use ospreys? Isn't Long Flights requiring speed what it was made for? I am sure they had reasons and were considered and rejected, but it's be interesting to see how the raid was planned and executed besides what has come out thus far.

11Fan 05-04-2011 06:08 AM

I guess given that we weren't "invited" to the party, a couple of "fast movers" would not have been appreciated to go in to clean up the wreckage of our presence.

Wonder how long before that tail rotor shows up on e-bay.

Maybe they couldn't land enough of them inside that compound. That is one BIG bird. At a time, I know there were concerns with the ability to fast rope out of the hell hole at least, but I've seen them rappelling out of the back.

V-22s are new to SOF, I don't think the comfort level exists for that aircraft yet, and DV may not have even worked with them yet.

Plus they did had the LO issue to consider, since they were penetrating a friendly country with a capable air defense system.

I don't see any resemblance to a Little Bird, looks like a pretty damn BIG Bird to me. How many SEALs did they insert? Sure is a lot of cables/wires over the crash site!

Why bother covering an H-60 or Little Bird, everyone has seen them before?

It wasn't a little bird.

I'd like to see the expressions on their faces when they discover the timer on the self-detonating explosives in the tail just as it clicks down to zero, in just about 10 minutes actually.

Tanker-driver 05-04-2011 09:21 AM

I have a crazy aunt who swears black helicopters that look just like this appear over house soon after we finish spraying our "chemtrails".

The artist's guess has it wrong, but the scene pics support that is on the same side as the stock 60.

The pointy piece at the top is the very tail end on the tailboom. If it were still attached, you'd be looking at the left side of the aircraft.

I'd really like to see a little bird which could carry 25 frogs (and one room-temperature tango) from Islamabad to a location where you could operate a US CVN. So where is refueling probe on that thing?

Gross SA failure on your part.

I thought this might be the case too, but I've read in one place, and heard from another, that the return trip was not direct CVN-70, but rather back into Afghanistan, and then onto the ship.

This is really interesting... when i saw this link on yahoo

Could the bin Laden Raid Have Revealed a Secret New Helicopter? - Yahoo! News

i immediately clicked on this website because i knew for sure that it would be a topic being talked about on this forum and sure enough it was.

So no one has any idea what kind of a chopper it was??

Hoof Hearted 05-05-2011 12:26 AM

Commanche?

It reminds me of the Army's prototype of the Commanche. It had a similar rotor, I believe. I'm sure we'll get bits and pieces down the line.

cargo hopeful 05-05-2011 12:51 AM

comanche

I thought the same thing too about the comanche but if i'm not mistaking, the comanche was a 2 seater right? And reports have said that a number of navy seals were flown in the destroyed chopper so...

There's quite a few military guys on here and i'm just a little taken aback that its still hard to say what it was:confused:

KC10 FATboy 05-05-2011 01:13 AM

Did we lose anyone during this attack?

Commanche had an enclosed rotor.

The F-117 was kept under pretty tight wraps at first too.

The guys who aren't in the know can speculate, but the guys who do know can't comment.

SEALs Used Secret Stealth Helicopter

Riddler 05-05-2011 08:00 PM

Let's just assume for a minute that we don't actually have a stealth helicopter. Is there any value in letting the world think that we have one? Hmmm.....

ERJF15 05-05-2011 08:34 PM

I assume that fire that's in that video of the compound after the assult is the helicopter burning. If you look close enough, you can see the tail and rotor sticking up in the frame. You gotta look hard for that shape.

Agree. Lets just stop, maybe it is better that way. Stealth...maybe it is just looking from a different point of view. I don't see the Seal team...Helo...spec ops dog...
