Default USAFR Combat Aviation Advisor (CAA)

Anyone know anything about this program? I've submitted a pilot package to the USAFR a few weeks ago and it has drawn some interest from the 5th SOS at Hurlburt Field, FL. I've done a little digging on the internet to determine what this entails, and the info out there is a little murky. I'm not even 100% sure this is duty that involves flying. If so, is it rotary wing, fixed wing or both? My background is as a Naval Aviator flying HH-60Hs and SH-60Fs, I think the HH-60 experience is what piqued their interest. Sounds like from what I've read that it's a fairly elite position, so not even sure if I'd have a legitmate shot, but who knows. I'm looking to get into fixed wing and don't really want to end up flying rotary wing again (unless this job would entail doing both). Doesn't fit in with my career path goals. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Jrow,

I can help some. I was 13 years in AFSOC, weapons & tactics background. Very familiar with those organizations & missions. Two friends have been 6th SOS (the active-duty FID/CAA squadron) commanders.

The 5th SOS used to be a straight AFRES MC-130P COMBAT SHADOW unit, then became a reserve associate, and then about 3 years ago, transitioned completely to the U-28 and FID/CAA mission. The AD 6 SOS has been doing the mission for a long time now.

PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send you a SOF primer that explains the mission in great detail. About 5.5 MB file.

It's flying, and they'd rather you stay RW. Tell them you're interested in FW and see what they say.
