Stupid stuff. If somebody cleared you to land, and you landed without a crash, you are closed out. Stop the insanity.

Yeah we get those a good deal as well. Come to think of it, we do get a lot more calls from Navy guys than AF, so Dragon7/FlyBoyd reference does make a little sense now. Just find it suprising that after FSS went contract they did not or have not bothered to update that document.

FSS lives and dies by the amount of contact we get, so by all means call, but we were curious as to why we keep getting those calls to close out at operating towered airports.

FWIW...the navy reg sparked my interest, so I decided to do a sanity-check of my AF reg today (AFI 11-202 v3), and it clearly says you do not need to call and close out a flightplan if you land at a towered field.

"3.1.5. Closing the Flight Plan. If operating in the NAS on an IFR flight plan into an airport with a functioning control tower, the flight plan is automatically closed upon landing."

I'll admit to my guilt....old habits die hard!
