Why are we doing this to ourselves ?
OK. I'm an old warrior but still have a burning love for the military. I'm as worried now as I was during the Cuban Crisis when I orbited in a B-52 Loaded with four nucs near the USSR. We are already stretched thin with too many deployments and now this.
"Prioritizing Flying Hours Last week, eight Air Force fighter and bomber units ceased flying and entered a dormant status. Four additional units are expected to stand down when they return from deployment in the next few weeks. And another bomber unit that is slated to come home this summer will stand down once it returns, said Air Force Secretary Michael Donley." We doing to ourselves what we did to the Soviet Union years ago when they could no longer fund their military. There are too many inept politicians (both Democrat and Republicans) in Washington. The military proposes saving money by shutting down excess bases and the politicians say not in my district. Meanwhile thousands of AF crewmembers (and Army / Navy personnel) sit loosing their war fighting edge and proficiency. It will be more expensive in the end including the loss of life. |

It is a risky bluff by the csaf. If it works and sequestration is undone he will be seen as a genius. If the stand down last as long or longer then expected the first order effects will be immediately catastrophic and the third order effects will take decades to undo. The ARC may come out of this looking like a more favorable construct, of course it will be at the expense of active duty.

That posturing has killed the 13B WIC classe...great idea! Not only that, you potentially killed a lot of dudes chances to compete for WIC or become IPs! The AF is already having a hard time keeping IPs and it's only going to get worse if the airlines start hiring. It's only 6 months (hopefully), but this will have far reaching effects...for years!

Getting these squadrons back on their feet is going to be monumental. we are not doing this to ourselves, our civilian leadership is, which is how our constitution and government work. I'm OK with this fact, though I do not agree with it. I am far from a (D) or BO supporter but elections have consequences. The military actually works for their pay, some of it very low (ask a SEAL who was on the Bin Laden raid how much he makes), but we a prioritizing other things (unemployment/welfare/green companies that go bankrupt) over military readiness. VOTE.
