I agree with MikeF16, keep it at the "bro level".
One the other side of it, I went to All ATP in Jacksonville, FL. Absolute terrible experience with the DE they use. Complete ball buster. I really think he wanted to fail me. He continued to mess with me while flying trying to get me off altitude and distract me from flying. I don't know if he would have failed me but it sure seemed like it. I did the 2 day program but I had a couple hundred of hours as a MEI in the seminole prior to the military so I think that may have helped. BL: don't go to all ATP in Jacksonville. The DE's last name is Strange (go figure). I'd stay away from him at all cost. Good luck. |
Had a similar "What planet is the DPE from" experience in APA.

FYI, Downtown Aviation is booked out to May 23rd.

I would not wish that two hour checkride on my worst enemy. He started the oral with "you are one of those military guys who is just going to waltz into an airline job". Yeah, that was awesome... |
Still looking for some gouge on a examiner for a ATP practical in the SOCAL area. Anyone have a name/reference/opinion? Thanks!!

The Eglin Aero Club has a C-310 and a DE on site that gives ATPs. I did mine there. It cost me about the same as the ATP flight school's advertised price, and I had no C-310 time and very little light twin time when I started. The DE's fee was $500. It took me four prep flights in the C-310 plus the checkride. The checkride wasn't cake by any means, but it was fair and there were no surprises. The DE is a good guy and a military advocate.
Also, I read on Sheppard Air's website that active duty can take FAA writtens at Hurlburt for free, but I have not tried that. |

CubbieBear, sorry so late to the fight--I don't keep up on the forum right now. I did the AllATP at Richmond last year. Nothing bad to say about the experience. Did the "2-sortie and a check" profile (short course). Sufficient training on the local equipment, and the DE was a nice old lady who likes to take military guys under her wing. After my ground eval, she spent a lot of time telling me how to approach civil aviation, and how to prep for interviews/sims (short answer--pay to prep for both!!).

ViperDrvr--can you remember the "nice old lady's" name? Thinking about Richmond in a month or so.
