I got my ATP and MEI at Cobra Kai.

Most of the instructors are current or former international ENJPPT IPs at Sheppard AFB. So they obviously they speak military and like working with Air Force guys.

It is not a "pay the fee and get the ticket" program - they won't send you to check until you are ready... and additional hours, of course, drive the cost up.

But the check pilot was awesome - Serious, but still big picture.

I would definitely recommend them!

Thanks for the info. Did you already have your written complete or did you do the whole program (written and practical prep)?

I did my written with Sheppard Air. Their ATP written prep is hands down the best way to go. Since I live in WF, I tested at Sheppard Air too. At that time, Cobra Kai didn't do any part of the written portion ... prep, testing, or otherwise. I don't know if that is still true or not though.

But now military can take any FAA written test for free in OKC at the Advanced Instruments School. So if it is convenient to get to OKC, you can save the $150 cost of the written test.

This is great gouge for anyone in or passing through the area. It would have saved me $300 had I known about it last year. BTW, for anyone passing through, it is at Will Rogers, not Tinker, so plan accordingly. The USAF guys over there will hook you up with the info.

On top of that it is on the west side of the field at the FAA center and your military ID won't get you on so it will take some prior coordination with someone on the center to get you on.

I am soon retiring and moving to Denver and am mulling the 800 ALLATPS Flightschool at Centenial versus other programs. This sounds great if it comes with a type as well. Thanks for any information.

I can't PM you. I don't think you'd have a problem with it. The -300 has some glass (and a lot of round dials) and an FMS. Figuring them out well enough to pass an ATP wasn't too difficult. I've spent the last 4 years flying day VFR SE piston and I figured it out. Good training program. If spendy. I obviously don't know you, but I can't imagine anyone who's been a military AC/IP having any problems. I know a few fighter bubbas who did the type/ATP, and they had positive reviews as well.

A guy on BO just posted that he failed his check ride at ALLATPS in Denver, at the least I'd read his write up before writing a check.

Is the consensus that if you are ATP written complete before the 31 July rule change, you are good wrt those additional requirements (ie don't have to do them)?

Eddiespaghetti, I had the same question about the written a few months ago. I emailed the FAA. FAA emailed back and told me as long as you complete the written on or before 31 July, it is good for two years without any additional requirements.

I'm banking on this myself. I have been out of the jet on a Staff tour, but am going back to fly for my last assignment. I've had a few guys recommend some places they went to (show with a bottle in your hand type deals), but don't want to risk being "that guy" who hooks the practical checkride because the FAA suddenly starts paying close attention to the Operation. I plan on knocking out the written this Spring using the Sheppard Air stuff and then doing the practical in a year or so after I've got back in the jet and flown a few hundred hours. Still deciding if I want to go check in a Seminole type deal or shell out the extra few thousand to something like HPA to get the type. I'm not necessarily one of those who has SWA way at the top of the dream list (would obviously be EXTREMELY happy to get the call from them), but HPA just seems like a top notch professional Operation that the extra $$$ might be worth it.

HPA is worth it for the contacts alone!

Not sure what you are talking about. As of august 2014 there are no more light twin atp rides. You will have no choice but to find a simulator with 40k mtow or more unless they relieve those requirements.
