Default ANG after selection process(civilian)

This may seem rather elementary for all of you military guys. Say I am lucky enough to be given a pilot slot off the street without having prior enlistment in the unit or any military experience for that matter, what happens next? Locations, amounts of time, etc. I've seen from various interview gouges and in the forums mentioning a two year absence from your spouse/gf? I'd pay them to get me away from my girlfriend for 2 years..Anyway, just wondering about the "what happens next" aspect.

Thanks in advance.

Step 1: Officer Training School (I think its about 11 wks now or somewhere close)- Maxwell AFB Alabama - No wife/gf
* Though this is for the Reserves, the Guard has a different program I think its in Knoxville, maybe a guard guy could chime in.

Step 2: Initial Flight screening (I think its around a month, I never did it) Pueblo Colorado - No wife/gf
Step 3: Undergraduate Pilot Training (approx 1 yr) - Laughlin AFB, TX or Vance AFB, OK or Columbus AFB, MS - wife/gf welcome
Step 4: Follow-on training for your MWS (length of time various) - Wife/gf welcome
Step 5: at some point you'll also do Water Survival and also Combat Survival/POW training (a few weeks) Fairchild AFB, WA - no wife/gf

This is a rough estimate of the flow.

All accurate; the Guard Officer Training School (can't think of the name of it right now) was at McGhee-Tyson, but closed for budget cuts. I think this was 2-3 years ago.

Now it is either done at OTS with Active guys, or at Maxwell (Montgomery), as you said....I'm just not sure which.

The Guard program was AMS (Academy of Military Science). It was co-located with OTS a few years ago. All of it (Active/Reserve/guard) is at the OTS campus in Montgomery.

AMS is indeed at Maxwell now. Also, this summer, the AF combined a reserve OTS and guard AMS classes into a combined test class making it (I believe) a 13 week course. I've heard that this is more than likely how it will be starting midway through this fiscal year (march/april timeframe). So reserve and guard guys will go to the same course.

Everything else is accurate expect IFS. If you already have at least a ppl, you will skip IFS and go straight to UPT after OTS/AMS.

Let me chime in on the "before Step 1" part...
You will have to go through the MEPS physical exam.
If you pass that, you will then swear into the Guard as an A1C.
In most cases, you will then start attending monthly drill with your unit, while you go through all of the paperwork (security clearance, ID card, etc...)
Then, you will get scheduled to go to Wright Patt for your flight physical.
Once you pass that, you will get scheduled for AMS.

Is that new? I went to IFS with a guard guy that had nearly 4000 hours.Well, now that I think of it, a reserve guy in my UPT class didn't go to IFS.

Thanks. Great info.

Currently have PPL and instrument, and will have commercial multi at the time of application. I am currently enrolled in a four year accredited aviation program.
