That's a new on on me. Back in the olden days, the Navy C-9 Wing Commander wouldn't let us take the ATP type rating flight in our airplanes. He didn't want us to bail out and go to the airlines.
We all got the pencil whipped DC-9 Commercial type and bailed anyway. When it was time to upgrade, the FAA decided that the Commercial type rating was as good as the ATP type rating and signed us all off anyway.

I will be getting mine through a 121 carrier as well, but it doesn't appear you can do the normal IACRA process online for the paperwork portion of it. That's what I need help with.
