Default TERA

I applied for TERA and received approval from AFPC. Finished my retirement application and went about my merry way. 2 weeks later AFPC sent me a cryptic email about how I'm not approved and would not elaborate.

I'm a 11F with 19 years watch out and don't believe the AF messages about who is permitted to apply for. TERA.

Can you say STOP LOSS

When you originally applied did they say you were approved or that you were eligible to apply? I was told that I was eligible by AFPC... then needed to get online and request to see if I was eligible again. 4-5 days later I got another e-mail saying I was eligible and could then fill out the retirement application. That was last Tuesday and haven't heard back yet.

Man, sorry to hear about the bait and switch! I have a feeling this is going to be a trend...

I was told that I was approved for TERA. My bad for thinking that I was good to go.

Good luck to you, Bait and Switch is exactly what it looks like.

I think just about every 11F was suspicious this was going to happen. "Sure, go ahead and apply...what, wait we need you to help with our horrible mismanagement. However, now that you threw down your cards, I guess there is no need to send you to Red Flag...we have a closing SOF tour for you next Friday instead."

Exactly. It'll be like those 11Fs who applied for VSP a few years ago, all of whom were denied. Hmm, here we have an 8 year Captain who has played his hand 12 years too early. 365 to Djibouti.

That said, there's not a lot they can do to a 19 year guy who is in the same boat.

Ironic. I posted on other thread on VSP to take and run for any daylightfor exactly these reasons. AF can yank rug out whenever they want. I still fear a STOP LOSS coming...

The sooner you apply the better but.....

During the TERA of the mid 90's I was offered the Early Retirement. I circled accept and crossed out decline on the form. Got CC's sig and thought great. Did transition assistance program briefings, exit physical and Interviewed! I waited on orders for moving. I waited some more. Finally I call MPC since I need to get retired and move. They do the phone to phone circus for a while and finally I get someone who tells me "Sir, there's been a problem with your retirement. The CSAF has denied it" I could not believe what I heard. I asked why. She said "needs of the Air Force". He denied twenty some retirements that year and I was one of them

So, best get your paperwork in before the Air Force wakes up but anything can happen. They hold the trump card.
