Guard + regional + commuting to both...

My short answer, and keep in mind I care about my schedule/life way more than I care about money. I currently sit reserve at a large regional airline, where we can be on reserve for up to 6 days in a row, and that often happens, and it's terrible. So what I do is save my AFTPs and when I need out of an airline trip I drop one, and the entire airline trip goes away. I send the HR leave folks the signed AFTP and call it good. This works for me, but I live where my guard base is, and like I said, I don't care about getting my full monthly guarantee at the airline, the cash=/= the time or effort required.
Your mileage may vary depending on the wording of the reserve section of your airlines labor contract. If you are commuting to both and can not short notice just drive in to the guard unit whenever you want to because you are commuting there as well i.e. you would be using the airline system you work for to non rev to your guard unit, I'm not sure that would fly.
