Default F-15 Down In Virginia

Media reporting an apparent F-15 crash between Virginia and West Virginia.

This is where there is a Low Level Route, often used by SJ.

No word on crew yet. Prayers.

I just heard on the news that the plane was out of Barnes Airport, Westfield Mass. I believe they said it was from the 104th Fighter Wing.

We live about ten minutes from the base. It was from the 104th in BAF, Westfield, MA. News trucks camped outside the base.

One report said that the ejection seat was still with the craft? Going down with his ship to avoid civ casualities?

Contrary to what is sometimes said/published, that's rarely part of the calculus on the decision to eject.

If one has the ability to steer the aircraft away from "civilian casualties", then one also usually has the ability to avoid the reason to eject.

What's likely going through the mind of someone who rides it in is a 100% focus on trying to solve/fix the problem to get the aircraft flying and under control again, as they have either consciously or unconsciously passed up the doctrinal minimum controlled and uncontrolled ejection altitudes.
