Default Retirement PCS

I just finished my retirement PCS and HHG move. As a retiree, do I qualify for mileage, hotel reimbursement, and partial DITY like I did as AD, or just the tender loving care of the lowest bidder who broke nearly everything he touched?

I think so. I got all of that when I PCS'd after separating. Well no hotel reimbursement, but per diem for me and every dependent, which was way above hotel costs. You can also make a claim on all of your broken items. I worked through my local base TMO (Buckley) for that, you could probably go through Dobbins I guess. Just no DLA.

Yep, the only thing that was different with mine was no TLA/TLE.

If it wasn't a solid piece of oak, they broke it. I also lucked out and had a very old wooden propeller come up missing.

It was insane. I've got pieces that have been to Korea, back to the US, to Germany, back to the US, to the UAE, back to the US not to mention who knows how many iterations into and out of storage and not a scratch. Door to door San Antonio to Atlanta? Obliterated into shards, gouged, scratched, put back together incorrectly, or somehow damaged. I am so effing plssed off. Now I'll get effed again when I try to claim them.

I know someone who lost almost everything on an overseas PCS when their freight container got accidentally dropped into the water.

The insurance process was absolute hell, and only recovered a fraction of what was actually lost.

The government, as of the last 5 or so years offers full replacement value. It's a pretty good deal and is much easier now. It used to be a real hassle and they would only give you present value or repair cost.

Me too. Retirement PCS move was the worst of all of them, including overseas to Panama which was full of corruption at the time. Miraculously I ended up "overweight" even though I was underweight when I was moved off base to my rental while waiting for that final move. My goods were combined with another smaller PCS and was told they were weighed separately. Imagine my surprise when I was told I was way overweight (actually impossible since I didn't move everything that was moved off base) after the fact and had absolutely no recourse. Uncle Sugar was not interested in investigating my case at all. Besides all of the damage, it cost me a small fortune. Nice parting shot after 20 years of service. No....I'm not bitter about it.

I just separated and I'm about to coordinate my final move this week. I plan on doing a partial DItY and move my guns, guitars, tools, etc. Basically anything I don't want broken or stolen.
