Correct, but without the policy, Guard/Reserve without enough points can't claim sanctuary at 18 after being passed over twice (and others are being asked to sign "sanctuary waivers" as a condition of going on orders). Hence my response to the question, you should get to 20 as a matter of policy...absent that, it wouldn't be a sure thing.

Had at least a dozen of these types in my Squadron 79-85... Former F-4, F-100 and 0-2 pilots. A few WSOs/navs as well (F-4s, C-119s, 121s, 133s, 124s), all trying to get 20... There were a few also working in CBPO trying to get 20... Also in the sq was the BAT 21 guy (no one knew at the time) as well as the co-pilot from the C-5 crash during Operation Baby Lift. It was interesting when we gathered in "blues" for a parade. Yes, i said parade... Oh, the uniform combinations... Still had guys trying to get away with some version of 1505s... |

Does anybody know if it's possible for one to attempt to switch over to the Guard for a PV slot if you get passed over for Major in the Reserves?
For example...You get passed over once in the Reserves but prior to getting passed over twice you apply to a guard unit which has an open Major billet. (I have heard that PV spots in the Guard are more of a local decision as opposed to meeting a promotion board in the Reserves) Thanks for the help |

Thanks for the help Years ago, my father was asked about my brother and me. When we were both promoted to 1LT about the same time, Dad was asked who was promoted first. His answer was both. My brother was AD USAF and pinned on O-2 first. Because I was ARNG, my DOR was three weeks earlier based upon the federal recognition of my state promotion orders. My brother wasn't exactly pleased. He did make O-3 before I did. |
