Leaving California is harder than you think…

Good luck moving out of CA. U-haul ran out of trucks a month ago.

I'm sure that CA is expecting to keep getting a lot of tax revenues off of silicon valley. Apple and Alphabet have some nice big headquarters buildings there.

The kids had no part in that working, saving, and investing. The kids did not purchase that property decades ago. Why are the kids so deserving of not paying the same taxes ON THEIR FREE HOME that their same-age next door neighbors do who just bought their first home?
Also, it's not like the state is confiscating that wealth. The home still exists, the kids still own the home, nothing has been lost
And if you're equating being fairly subjected to the tax code like everyone else is having "the entire weight of the State come down upon them like the furious winds of an angry god" then perhaps the problem is the tax code?

I remember a certain famous radio talk show host who moved from New York to Florida. New York State kept auditing him every year, for years. Had to prove he did not work each and every day in New York state.

But being very mobile, most of those bailed for Austin and Denver, leaving behind the middle class to pay the taxes…

The liberal/moderate wing of the party seems to be revolting against progressive excesses. They just crushed a universal health care bill too.
I'm vaguely optimistic that the pendulum is starting to swing. It's like the establishment was giving their precocious and unruly children a little too much leeway because they weren't sure how far it would go, but have now realized it's time for some adulting.
