Default Credit issues

I advise everyone to check their credit report. I never did until I went to purchase my truck then found out there were two errors on it. Today I just received a letter after writting the companies several times about this issue stating that the errors had been deleted.

So I went to go check my score. My old score was 612. The ****off was that I had to still pay the $7.95 to check my score even though I had never made the error. After paying I checked and my score was now 742 which is pretty good for a 24yr old doing it on his own. Because of this I will be able to refinance my vehicle to tier 1 and save almost $100 a month in payments. So it pays to check!

Actually, everyone is entittled to request a copy of one's credit report from all three credit reporting companies annually for FREE. Also, if you are ever denied credit (and possibly if there is an error), you should be able to get an additional report for free. (see the companies' websites for all information ... Equifax is one, cant remeber the name of the other two)

Yes, you are entitled to a free report, but not a free score. All the free report shows is your credit history. To get your score, you have to pay extra.

It is good fiscal practice to check your credit history annually. The score is important when it comes to buying a house, for example, but I am assuming that not everyone would be making such a big purchase very often.

The following are The Big Three consumer reporting agencies:
1) Experian, PO Box 9556, Allen, TX 75013, 888-397-3742
2) Transunion, PO Box 2000, Chester, PA 19022, 800-916-8800
3) Equifax, PO Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 3037, 800-685-1111

Note also that each of these uses a different "model" to come up with a score, but inexplicably, the range of possible scores are 300 to 850 for all three. I do not profess to know how they determine a score for anybody.
