Default OUCH!!!

Had surgery and just got the bill for what is left to be paid after insurance. Astonished to see 10K owed after insurance. They offered a 50 percent reduction, leaving me at 5K.

I am a bit hesitant to pay this and asking if anyone else has had this problem in the past. An attorney who could reduce this, or anything like AOPA legal.

I could really use the help so please respond.

Wow, I can't believe Obamacare didn't take care of your problem.
Good luck pard, declare bankruptcy and get a head start.
Or declare yourself an illegal immigrant and get all for free.
Got any anchor babies?

Some hospitals will negotiate, as you have already found, you might want to renegotiate and bring proof of your hardship situation.

Have you talked to your insurance? I received a bill for a hospital stay in the amount of $12000, after the insurance payments. I called the insurance and inquired about it, since I couldn't believe that I still had to pay so much. They looked at my records and told me that the hospital made a mistake when they submitted their claim. They used the wrong codes. I was advised to call the hospital and have them resubmit it to the insurance with different codes.
I did, and then received a new bill for $ 150.
Maybe there was a mistake when the hospital submitted the claim?

The negotiated down to 5k....but still way too much. I am actually in a financial hardship. Have you heard of them going lower than that?

I talked to insurance and they said they will get in touch with the hospital. Problem is that the hospital calls them back and cant get ahold of them. The run around.

Have you guys heard of medical charity that may help? Is that something that the hospitals help with?
