With enormous respect to my 109 colleagues who suffered a completely unnecessary furlough, this job has been a very desirable and stable job for a long time. No job is full proof, but, as we have seen, Fedex and UPS have been the mantra of job security for a long time. You can make all the comments you want, barring a short period of time of “just because I can furlough to spite you” time, the facts speak for themselves.

hey brother I’m a freight dog at heart, my first decade in this thing of ours was spent behind the yoke of a DC3 flying with the night brigade, and during the furlough I was blessed with 2 747 types flying global ACMI with K4, UPS rocks it no doubt, but this little frac thing of ours has evolved to a point where it Is regarded as a necessity now, and not a luxury by our clients, post 2018 IBI this job has become quite enjoyable, Glad you are happy, but we are too, I will always be a freight dog , God bless you guys, a lot of my Kalitta peeps are now wearing Brown, plus you are keeping the 747-8 alive. Cheers !!!

That’s my point. No aviation job is the “ Holy grail” job. You ask delta pilot in feb 2019 they will tell you that is the Holy Grail of aviation career. And yes I can make all the comments I want. It’s a free county where I live.

MinRest 07-29-2020 03:04 PM

There is no such thing as a holy grail job. There are jobs that are better than others.

I'm not sure if you are being serious but in case you are: By most measures it is not. Neither is my country by the way.

I had a quick look at rankings from a wide range of international sources by country based on freedom, GDP, heaths systems, obesity, drug addiction, violent crime, higher education, obesity, happiness, suicide rates and much more. The US is not the number one in any(!) of these rankings.

Doesn't mean it's a bad country. It does have its major flaws though and is far from perfect. Being able to see and admit this does not mean one isn't a patriot. It just means one isn't an idiot.

I've been receiving mixed information on future classes. Some say they're starting up again soon, others say NJ is still offering unpaid leave. which is it?

The only information I have been able to confirm is that those in the pool will remain there until the dust settles, and will not need to re-interview.

You summarize lots of core issues here in this country right now. We are not the greatest country on the planet, and far from it in so many ways. This blind patriotism is why we have lost our way. Even lots of pilots vote for staunch anti union politicians and instead of taking this COVID pandemic even remotely seriously, we have pilots who don't believe in masks and want you to drink fish tank cleaner because the orange muppet said so.

They offered unpaid leaves, tour drops etc. but halted new leaves and tour drops in June when flight demand rebounded strongly. Apparently, demand has softened because they are offering them again.

I find it hard to believe they’ll be hiring any for the rest of 2020. Sorry.

Disagree. America has been and still is the greatest country in the world. Flaws yes? Imperfect yes? Some of those are referenced above.

Dinesh D’Souza articles hits upon many of those elements in this article

What's Great About America

Other bullet points:
  • The reason that “a lot of countries have freedoms” today is because our Founding Fathers pioneered the principle of popular sovereignty, where governments answer to the people. At the time of our founding, the rest of the world was ruled by monarchs. Our founders established the first country in human history that was built not only on blood and soil, but on an idea — the idea of human liberty.
  • For most of our history, American democracy was a global outlier. In 1938, on the eve of World War II, there were just 17 democracies. It was not until 1998 — just two decades ago — that there were more democracies than autocracies.
  • Today, 4.1 billion people live in democracies. (Of those who don’t, four out of five live in China.) The unprecedented expansion of liberty has produced unprecedented prosperity.
  • Last September, the Brookings Institution reported that “for the first time since agriculture-based civilization began 10,000 years ago, the majority of humankind . . . some 3.8 billion people, live in households with enough discretionary expenditure to be considered ‘middle class’ or ‘rich.’ ”
  • None of that would be possible without the Pax Americana guaranteed by US military. Americans liberated a continent, rebuilt much of it from the rubble of war with the Marshall Plan, and then stood watch on freedom’s frontier and prevented a Soviet tank invasion across the Fulda Gap. And today, the only thing that stops North Korea from invading South Korea or China from invading Taiwan is American military might.
  • Every country that enjoys democratic governance today owes its birth of freedom to our Founding Fathers and the continued existence of their democracy to the US military.
Dont expect to change your opinion...shared for lurkers who might be swayed by your opinions and the data above but stats don’t tell the full story but are convenient talking points for those who find America “not the greatest country”. ...

I ask you if the US isn’t the most desirable which country is?

Do they have persons fighting to come to their country in the numbers the US has?

If not, why not?

Cheers and good luck in your aviation career.

OBTW, you can thank those old American Wright Brothers for this profession.

One more thing to add to this list. Other counties use real cane sugar in their coca cola. In the U.S. they use high fructose corn syrup. No bueno!

yeah man, when I was flying freight during the furlough all the Mideast Coke had real sugar, great stuff, can’t stomach the corn syrup stuff, no bueno indeed.

Let’s also add how Budweiser and all the global breweries absolutely destroy the quality of a beer when they acquire it, I’m still in mourning for Rolling Rock...LOL

isn't it amazing that bud and bud light are two of the best selling beers in the world? It truly is a testament to the power of advertising. I'd rather undergo a strong round of chemotherapy than ingest that nasty stuff. The Germans take 1st prize for the beer category in my opinion. While we're talking history, research the German purity law of 1516.

Apologies for the tread drift, but as this is about NetJets class dates and they're aren't any a beer discussion is more than appropriate!

I don't know. Not sure there is or has to be a single greatest country. I do like Austria a lot and think New Zealand sounds great. What I have no time for is unreflected, blind patriotism saying "America is th greatest country" without knowing most of the other places and what some of them may be doing better. I also fear that the past is no reliable indicator of the future so your history lesson has limited value

I believe humility, and grace leavening blind patriotism is the best way forward, I love my country , Marine infantry vet here, but acknowledge it’s flaws, the current upheavals show that the status quo isn’t acceptable to many going forward, and we also have elections to remedy all that going forward, flying long haul cargo throughout the planet 1st , 2nd, and 3rd world was an eye opener as to how 80% of this planet lives, we all have to do a better job going forward, globally , about taking care of each other, and getting along, our work, and it’s daunting is cut out for us. Less hate, more love, is a start. Not talking left, or right here, just in general. We are ALL in this together.Cheers.

100%. Very well said. As a veteran I am a proud American, and love this country, but I fully recognize some serious faults. We have lots of work to do here, and I hope we can get to a place where we can actually do that work and move forward.

actually though at times I fall short this what I ascribe too, and am trying to project going forward, the old paradigms just aren’t working, and may I ask who are you ? You apparently know me, so I’m curious about who you are, pm me , or skulk in the shadows, I’m curious. I just wish people would STOP saying "we're all in this together." We're NOT. It is very clear that certain elements in American society are not at all interested in unity, forgiveness, positive change, or real social justice. They only seek to destroy the United States as a representative, constitutional republic.

Thread derail complete.

Netjets job applicants: Sadly, I don't believe we will be hiring until at least early 2021. Keep trying, buena suerte.

Yep. The guy idolizes and sucks the holes of the autocrats Putin, Jong-un and Erdogon while weakening our allies and NATO. Attacks law enforcement, the judiciary and a free press. Seeks help in his election from foreign enemies, and when he is scared of losing lays the foundation for undermining the results of our most sacred Constitutional right. He's not only a conman and a criminal, but a draft dodging puzzy. I'm with Generals McRaven, Mattis and Powell among many others. Bolton probably had it right when he said the Union probably won't survive another term.

The problem is the alternative in equally untenable for different reasons and no reasonable third party candidate has come forward and time us running out.
