Boise is a crew base. You can start and end right from there.

I saw that. I guess I wasn’t really being specific. I was just wondering if it’s more of a challenge getting Boise based pilots to their airplane on day one of a tour than other bases and getting them home. I assume it is.

It’s totally random but usually a two leg airline through either ord/msp for east coast stuff and den/slc for west coast stuff. You will airline a lot and will be platinum on everybody.

Yes and no.

Yes, you will airline a lot. No, you will not be platinum on everybody.

The only people who come close to platinum on any carrier are those that live in a fortress hub OF that carrier or small towns that are served ONLY by that carrier (and the Bubbas on the Global that doze for dollars in biz class on international airlines all the time thanks to the briber.....um, good will of certain schedulers).

In 22 years, I have achieved platinum ONCE and that was only because I had a LOT of international airlining that year including a contract trip with international airlines on both ends.

Just keeping it real here.

another Captain “Actually” strikes again. 😜You caught me. In 2018 I only had 184 airline segments. I was United platinum, Delta platinum (there is a higher diamond status) only Alaska mvp gold and American gold only through a status match challenge.

The overall gist of my statement was to make those unfamiliar with crew bases understand your base is just where you live. You will almost always airline and usually multiple legs if you live in a smaller more remote city. Day 1 and 7 were almost exclusively travel days out of Boise. Most guys from outside the fractional world can’t wrap their head around that. You end up in key west on day 6, day 7 will be a 3 leg 14 hour airline home.

Just to save a “technically” reply. Status on 4 airlines is not “everybody”. I lied. Technically the stars could align and you could pick up a plane in Boise and start from there. The key is to be flexible or the job will drive you insane

Work is work. As long as I am doing a potential 14 hour commute on a day in my tour that’s fine. Nothing says it would always be that way. SLC is right around the corner from BOI. I see a ton of NetJets airplanes on the GA ramp when I have to land on 35/17. There might be tours where my commute is nice and easy.

Besides, you get a pay override if they get you home after midnight, right? Sounds good to me. Can I come take my sim ride now?? 😜

Guess I should move to Boise then if I ever want to sniff at an upgrade. After 22 years, my airline experience has been largely "Gum on Shoe" with United, "Dog Poo on Shoe" with American, a few thousand points short of A List on Southwest, and, unbelievably, Silver or even Gold on Delta. Totally depends on where you live and whether you have "friends" in scheduling.

But you're absolutely right about people outside fractional not being able to wrap their heads around a lot of what we do.

Like have 80 year old dudes still on the seniority list....but that's another keyboard duel.

I didn’t think your home base has anything to do with upgrade.

I'm referring to upgrade from steerage to business or first class while riding the airlines IE: airline status.
