Not a NJ guy but I assume there is more to this story. The Union would have certainley represented him if that was the case.

Wrong. Had they not attended a picket, they would not have been fired as there would have been no investigation. In fact, even if you didn't attend but were some how involved in the picket, you were brought in for a CRB. One individual resigned and went to work for someone else rather then be fired. The company fired the NJASP VP and Strategic Planning person. The company says one thing and they say another. It will go to Arbitration and in 1.5-2 years we will all get to read about it as the union publishes all the Arbitration cases.

The company might have to pay back pay but that's a small cost for the chilling effect the terminations have on behavior and morale. Hopefully there is a special place in hell for Ford and Harrison.

That is so true. We have multiple Arbitrations where pilots have got their job back with either 100% back pay or with only a small loss of pay. The ones where pilots are truly in the wrong, they usually resign in leu of a termination as there is a small payout. Even a few termination that were upheld in Arbitration but the company was later proved to have lied or been in the wrong, AiR 21 lawsuits have been filed and even though they didn't get their job back, the company settled and paid them off to get the AIR 21 lawsuit dismissed with prejudice.

That's the wonderful thing about union protections and arbitration, you can get your job back for wrongful termination but it takes a year or two. Keep that rainy day fund full. A hostile management team can still fire you anytime for any reason and you are on your own to pay your bills for an extended time even if you are ultimately vindicated.

Probably well over $500K actually when you add in interest, attorney fees and punative damages on top of back pay.

Under the RLA, there is no lawyer fees or punitive damages. You are just made whole. The union eats the cost of all the legal fees. Now, under a AIR 21 case, you can win lawyer fees and punitive damages but they are not like the kind you hear in the news. But it is powerful enough that the company has settled quite a few cases and paid the employee to go away versus losing in an AIR 21 case and having all the information made public. Go to the DOJ website and read some of the AIR 21 cases, they are a fun read. Do a search for Netajets and you can read all the cases filed against them. They even one a few.
