Default NetJet & CS pay

OK,

The pay for NJ and CS seems confusing. Can anyone please put down a clear/concise pay scale from experience.

For instance:

NJ year 5 reserve BE-400 thru DA-2000

FO - $56,260
CA - $106,810

CS year 5

FO - $52,530
CA - $91,000

Is this what you saw/see with your pay? I've heard you will make more, but how much is typical? Any examples from experience would be appreciated.

This is not from experience, but many have suggested these numbers in the past. NJA you have a base salary. We are paid per diem at 40 dollars and some change a day. If on 7&7 you are working 14 days a month, 12 months a year. Your first and last days are not 24 days, hopefully, so use 13 days a month.
13 x 12 = 156 days
156 x $40 = $6240

You also get paid overtime, and there are several different types of overtime. You get paid extra for extended trips and working holidays. The grey beards say take 10% of your base salary to come up with this number. For a 1st year FO that is $4000 and some change.

Add the two and you get close to $11K additional to your $44K (if you are reserve the entire year). Bid 7&7 and your base is less. Work every holiday make more.

The only cost at NJA is union dues which is a percent of your base pay. Medical, dental and life is paid by the company. You pay co-pays and deductibles. Your 401k contributions and supplemental life are up to you. Your taxes are up to the Feds and your state.

BTW, there are several other threads that have break outs of peoples' pay. 50-60, closer to 50 probably, seems to be the norm for year one. As an FO, the rate increases may not even match inflation.

If it's just the payscales you're looking for, then go over the the "airlines" section of the main website. Netjets and CS payscales are both up there. As far as OT at Netjets, it's hard to say exactly what you'll earn. It depends on so many factors. But the one thing I can absolutely guarantee you without any doubt is that you will earn more than just your base salary at Netjets. As long as you show up to work, you will get OT without even trying.

And you really can count most of the perdiem as pay since the company feeds us when we are working. I probably average between one and two meals out of pocket per tour. It is a nice untaxed chunk of change.

From the CS side of the house, those scales on the main site are correct however....:
1. per diem is $2.30/hr ($55.20 on a 24 hr day). After taxes that is about $50x23 tours per year=$8050. 95% of the time you never spend even close to that on your tour. Most hotels we stay in have free breakfast, and to each his own as to where you want to eat lunch/dinner. If you want to save $$ eat at subway. It's up to you how much of the per diem to spend.

2. You will work a number of overtime days without even asking because some tours the company just can't get you home on the scheduled "go home day". Then you can volunteer for overtime days on each tour and that is up to you - sometimes you get them, sometimes they don't need you. Most people don't count on overtime in their annual income; they (like me) just see that as extra cash because it's never a guarantee.

3. Upgrades are running at about 2.5 years for those hired now. Again it is not a seniority based system so upgrades are not guaranteed just based on time. They are "merit based" so if you are a slacker or have bad reviews that 2.5 years will grow. That said, there are no 3+year FOs at CS so if you are looking at the 5-year point, use the Capt table.

Hope that helps.

Hey guys,

Great replies. I sure appreciate it. I've got exactly 1 year before I'm out of the AF and just got my ATP, so I'm starting to get spooled up. I appreciate the good info.

I've met both CS and NJ guys out on the road (I fly Navy King-Air's for pilot training) and have heard great things from both companies.

How do you all feel about NJ/CS? Would you fly for SW if you could? Or is the lifestyle/flying/etc... what you like where you're at?

It all depends on what you are looking for and the lifestyle you want. If you want to fly the same routes/airports for years and avoid dealing with pax by closing the doors behind you, then SWA or other majors are your thing. If you like variety and going to new places every day, are not afraid to go the extra mile for the pax, and not below doing a bit of cleaning then the fracs may be more your liking.
There are so many diferences and it all depends on your preference. Sure SWA is still the big dream for a lot of people, but their glory days are numbered. It's a scary industry. If you are looking for job security, in my humble oppinion, I would look at the cargo and fracs. more specifically, CS and NetJets. Flt Options' days are also numbered.
Take that for what it's worth - just one person's view. As a former AF guy myself, know the questons you are dealing with.

Hey Arjanssen,

Used to be in VT-31 / CNATRA back in '97-'00. Is Gene Mason still doing the ATP's for you guys? Good luck to you...got a good buddy who has been with NetJets for about 10 years now...he is digging it and is trying to convince me to join...I will be starting the app process here in the near future.

Cheers,
JD

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't part of that reimbursed to the company for crewmeals (at CS)?

Other differences:
NetJets-
...pilots pay union dues...... 1.56% of earnings (1st year 7/7 FO approx $600)
...has employer paid insurance ($0)
...pays 100% for crew meals during the day.

Hey Tweet!

We had a problem with our ATP guy losing his qual a few years ago; might have been Gene. Most people are getting their ATP and 737 type at the same time now. If you have the GI BILL, it pays for 60%, so for a couple grand, you get a type and an ATP. Not bad.

Check your PM!

See ya.
