Had someone ask me the other day, and I didn't know the answer, but is NetJets hiring pilots right now ?

Yes, I thought that was pretty common knowledge. Lots of guys on the street, no hiring for a very long time.

 

I ran into a NJ captain last year. Very nice gentleman with more information than he had time to disclose. He said that they would start with re-calls in 2014 and new street hires in 2015. Of course, that information is a year old and things change rapidly, but it was the most encouraging news I've ever heard about them.

Yes I just went through obedience training. They're saying recalls late 2016, maybe early 2017. My opinion it might happen sooner than that. The truth is they have no idea what the world's economy and the frax market is going to look like 3-4 years from now. They're basically giving us forecasts as they go because they have to, but they have no idea.

Also keep in mind we're in contract negotiations again, and depending on the outcome many people might decide to stay or leave.

We have a lot of young guys who still wanna fly "big planes". They'll go once hiring picks up at the majors. We have also have a bunch of old guys who refuse to retire.

Over on the other thread "To all Fractional Pilots", an amazing debate has been raging on in regards to the benefits vs. disadvantages to being represented by a union vs. being an at-will employee. Suprisingly, few Netjets pilots have chimed in as to whether they would like to give up their CBA and go back to pre-2005 pay and work conditions. Or even in the pay-for-training days before a union existed.

It amazes me that these debates ever start given the obvious higher levels of pay, working conditions, and stability enjoyed by union pilots. But these conversations always start.

So, would you rather be non-union and have no contract? Or are you happy with the contract that you were able to negotiate?

As for me, I have never met a pilot that had representation that had a contract, even a bad one, that would rather go back to being an at-will employee.

So, inquiring minds want to know.... Has the Union been a good thing for Netjets pilots or a bad thing?
