The latest class had some 1500 hour CFIs.

Was just offered a job with a class of April 1. 1500 CFI here. Looking for any info on crash pads in SJ, any info on the upcoming LOA, etc. Thanks!

flypilot 01-12-2024 07:09 AM

Welcome aboard! The results of the new LOA should be announce in the next few days I'd imagine.

SJU chief pilot is an amazing guy, will send you an email once you get your base assignment. It will provide you with info about the base and other stuff. He has lots of contacts for crashpads/places to stay, etc. Email him/call/text for more info on that. Everyone down in SJU is very helpful and fun to work with. You will have a blast down there.

flypilot 01-21-2024 06:53 AM

The results of the new LOA were announced and it was approved. The new pay rate take effect retroactively starting Jan 1st is my understanding.

Any suggestions for flight bags that fit the ATR-600?

I have Travel Pro Flight Crew 5 22"
https://crewoutfitters.com/default/t...ollaboard.html
It just barely fits in the overhead bin, so I wouldn't get anything bigger (I think even the expandable version for $10 more would have a difficult time fitting). Really though you can get whatever size you want because we put our bags in the Rear Aft storage area and there's plenty of room there, but if you're traveling on anyone elses metal, this is a good size bag that will fit pretty much everyone's carry-on requirements.

For a flight bag I use the Travel Pro Flight Crew 5 Tote
https://crewoutfitters.com/default/t...ight-tote.html
It fits everything I need to carry with me, headset, some food/snacks, extra forms/folders, pens, sunglasses, etc. But anything the size of this bag will fit in the small area between the seat and the wall.

How bad is the attrition at Silver? Is the captain situation bad like everywhere else? And also, for the people who are moving on. Where are they going? Other regionals as DECs? LCCs?

it's bad.

A mix of all, some to LCC (used to be spirit before they stopped hiring, but lots have also gone to frontier/jetblue). These days Breeze seems to be a hot place for a lot of our guys. If they go to a regional it's mainly to Envoy, and some go to ACMI as well. I heard an FO went straight to United but I think he has family connections there

Is Seaborne a part of Silver now? How does the Virgin Islands flying/hiring work?

Just an FYI. Usually, an interviewer will ask why do want to work here. Neither of these question will age well. As far as how the hiring and flying go, it is the same everywhere. Get hired, spend 60-90 spdays in training. Training ends one of two ways, with an S or a U. If it is an S, you go flying.

Best wishes

I don’t want to work there. Just want information.

If only the chief pilot in SJU would put some effort into making the operation something even remotely reliable!

All of our -500 flying was cargo with Amazon based out of AFW. In June of 2023 Amazon terminated the contract and Silver stopped flying the -500. The pilots from the AFW base were given the option to come to the San Juan/Florida network, some chose to, others didn't. Regardless, to answer your question, Silver no longer flies the -500, only the dash -600.

Can you explain how the Seaborne operation works? I know someone from the Islands who is interested.

Unfortunately I cannot help you there, I work in the FL network and really have no clue on the Seaborne side of things.

Seaborne is owned by Silver though right? Just running as a seperate entity?

FozzieBeer 03-10-2024 01:46 PM

Can anyone give a breakdown of the training timeline/froot print. I start training April 1. Just curious what to expect, still waiting to get more detail from recruiter. Thanks!

Yes, owned by Silver, I think it's under it's own 121 cert (because we bought them). The company does their best to try to integrate the two, but they are so very different, it's difficult (at least from my point of view).

Thanks for the info. Silver handles their recruitment as well?

Hey guys, will be starting training on 8 July down in Lauderdale. Is there anyone here that can send me flows, memory items and expanded checklists? Want to be ahead of the game if possible to make training a little easier. Also I'm typed on the ATRs (42/72) but have no 600 experience (legacy only). Thanks for any help

Shoot me a PM, I have all the training materials from a friend. My June class got cancelled and pushed to August, hopefully. Hoping for a dropout before then to take their place lol

Hey!

I was thinking about applying for DEC at Silver. Anyone know what's going on at the company? Is it surviving or going down hill business and operational wise?

Thanks!

Our website says we're hiring FOs and Direct Entry Captains, but honestly, we've slowed down on hiring. Our Attrition at this point of time is practically zero. We have FO's reaching 1000 hours and upgrading and we've been somewhat overstaffed on FOs so it's making the FO/CA ratio even out. The airline isn't really growing (we need more planes for that and we're not getting them for multiple reasons which I'm not going to discuss here), but we're not doing poorly either right now (if I had to guess I think we're probably somewhat profitable for the first time in a long while), just not growing.

Feel free to apply, but don't get your hopes up on getting much of a response back at this point in time unfortunately.

Can anyone who flys here at Silver fill me in on how full y'all's flights are lately? Trying to get my mom on a Zed fare ticket over the 4th of July weekend FLL-TPA round trip and have no way to check the loads

4th of July weekend is probably all you need to know. I would purchase a ticket.

Rent a car for her and have her drive. I'd avoid the hassle of 4th of July flying.

What is first year Captain pay at Silver? Is it all mostly day time flying? It sounds like a good QOL gig if you want to be home often with little overnights.

First year pay based on base pay only (no credit beyond min guarantee is $108k). Most trips are day trip. Depends on where you're based. Out of TPA for example, some lines have no overnights, some have as much as 4 two day trips. Varies month to month.
