What's the latest on CommutAir?

Gaining, losing, staying the same? how are contract negotiations going? Hiring? Short staffed?

Alknew182 09-21-2011 11:11 AM

Staying the same right now. All of the 300s are on the line now. Contract Negotiations are still being hashed out. Still working on the main issues, I would think maybe another 6 months to a year before a TA shows up.

A lot of people are leaving for other airlines both FO and Capt, so they are currently hiring.

DirectTo 09-21-2011 11:13 AM

Five -300s are online, supposedly looking for more. Just ran a new hire class of six, still interviewing though I haven't heard a date on the next class. Captains leaving for all kinds of places, Omni, SWA, Virgin, Spirit, upgrade classes should be kicking off again with the next bid I think.

Typical ALPA uselessness with contract negotiations...just the rah rah messages every week or so to re-inform us that they have gotten nowhere.

Definitely short-staffed. Reserves covering flying and staying busy. Lineholding within two months for sure in EWR, longer for CLE. EWR growing. CLE steady (maybe some growth with Colgan dropping their four lines out there).

Crews are great. The Dash is a beast. Just the typical BS from management.

Wish I'd get a call to interview....

500 and 50 as of yesterday.

DirectTo 09-21-2011 01:41 PM

Ah yeah that'd do it. The 100 multi is a huge deal, they're totally dead set on it even with internal recs. 700/100 seems to be ok with internal recs, otherwise probably 1200/200 or so has seemed to be normal lately.

Cruz5350 09-21-2011 01:58 PM

Another 50 it is.

spudskier 09-21-2011 03:49 PM

well, hope that contract gets taken care of soon... ALPA is pretty useless (at least on the regional side - let's not get started) Any chance they'll be interested in Street Captains or do they have a decent pool of appropriately timed pilots to fill upgrades?

Alknew182 09-21-2011 04:22 PM

I would not count on street captains anytime soon. I think most of the current pilots will have enough time.

DirectTo 09-21-2011 04:48 PM

Yeah...they're starting to get into the lower time guys now for upgrades (class before last was where the cutoff was from 3 year FOs to 1 year, six month FOs). Plenty are waiting for their turn, which is great for the rest of us on the seniority list.

Haven't heard even the slightest rumblings on street Captains. Thankfully.;)

Hey now, we've got a pretty good contract on the 9L,XJ,9E side.

allds83 09-21-2011 08:49 PM

Last I heard they were having trouble filling the next class...maybe time to lower those mins.

Well glad to hear things are moving. You're saying upgrade is 6 months? Almost worth giving up 5+ years at my carrier as an FO with no hope of upgrade and the salary cut just to try and move my career forward... Good luck to all there

...or pay more.

Where do you guys train?

Dash Driver 07 09-22-2011 06:12 AM

This place is a slippery slope do your research before coming here.

Dash8Capt4now 09-22-2011 07:28 AM

I would definitely consider other regionals before coming to CommutAir. Enough said! Look at our pay scales .... if that is not a red flag please move on. You will be treated like you are paid and their is nothing you or ALPA can do about it.

zildjian_zach 09-22-2011 07:36 AM

There's a new hire class scheduled for 10/17... if they can fill it.

True that.

Ground is in Cleveland. Sims are in Seattle currently at FSI. Recurrent/upgrade typically in ATL.

frmrdashtrash 09-22-2011 10:41 AM

Thanks for the info.

Steel Tiger 09-22-2011 07:48 PM

Dont go to C5! there is still hope! The pay sucks, the management sucks, and alpa sucks. Besides wanting to live in CLE or EWR I would not consider C5 as an option. The only good side is flying with some amazing old school captains and flying a plane that can do as many cool things as the Dash.

Can anyone report on the interview, most current hiring news/changes, what it's like to fly there? I interview on Wednesday in CLE. Thanks.

Interview - basic IFR/regs test while they go over your logbook. HR/tech with CP, Director of Training (maybe, we just got a new one), or someone along those lines. I found out on the spot I got it, I think that's normal.

Just ran a new hire class, with attrition they'll need more (upgrading too). Last class was a split of EWR and CLE. EWR is generally the more junior base and definitely the more fun base.

The plane is great, the crews are great, the company doesn't give a rat's rear about you, ALPA seems to have the same feelings as the company.

It's a small company, everyone knows everyone which is pretty nice. If you can just get good at calling the company out on BS and ignoring the ALPA rah-rah, it's not a bad place to get your regional time.

Of course, I'm just a pilot. Your mileage may vary. But I have stayed at a couple Holiday Inn Expresses in the last few weeks.

121dj 09-26-2011 10:57 AM

That is good feedback, Direct. Thank you.

tkr1967 09-29-2011 10:10 AM

If they **** test you, you're hired.

Av8tion 09-30-2011 05:42 PM

Since he doesn't meet ATP requirements I can't see how he became a captain....

Nope. I heard he got on with FedEx.

I am speechless, if true.

I wonder if he mentioned his F16 time in the interview (or does his dad work there?)

No idea...just heard that he was leaving. Which is probably a good thing...when you're sitting alone in the crew room, guys won't pair with you, and you're the butt of jokes on basically every flight, it's probably good time to find new employment. Outside aviation would be a great start.

You guys think some of the comedy on here about him is good, you should hear some of the stuff people come up with who see the worthless piece of .... every day.

What's even more comical is the guy doesn't think everyone knows. It's one of the first things our new FAs find out..."see that guy over there? He pretends to be a fighter pilot jockey/astronaut cadet/deep sea diver/SEAL/prince of England/kitten-rescuing superman when he's not here." But you'll see him trying to "win over" the new ones. Last thing we need is little TMs running around.

The guy isn't worth the plastic his certificate is printed on.

Fly782 10-01-2011 04:36 AM

I get texts almost everyday from my buddy when he sees him in the crewroom. Let me tell you they are entertaining to say the least!

Really?! You have to go the military section of this forum and look for the thread " a military poser in ALPA magazine"
