I applied today. 1500TT, 600 multi, 350 turbine, part 121. I have a few questions
1. Is commuting possible and/or doable? 2. What is the most likely new hire base? 3. How long before you can hold a line and have some kind of QOL? 4. What types of lines are available? 5. How is reserve worked? 6. Upgrade time? I know things change a lot, but I will take a best guess. Just want some intel should I get a call. |
Majority of guys hired in the last 18 months are commuters. IAD and ATL can be held as a reserve with excellent commutability depending on where you're coming from. (My base/commute have worked for me for 3+ years [previous airline])
As an FO? Anywhere but Florida. Once again depends on where you wanna be....GLH definitely could hold a line...but at what cost? HARD and reserve 12 hour sifts, 90 minute call out. 3 hours min per day. Pretty standard TBH Eh ill defer that question to others on the board. I don't think we'll have a good idea about that one until the next staffing bid is done. |
Redacted.
Sorry guys! |
All airlines will have their drawbacks and unhappy people so beware of that. Truthfully I still feel now would be a good time to come to silver. Nobody really knows the upgrade time but I feel 2 years is probably accurate even though others may disagree. Bases and commutability will change here in the near future when they have a staffing bid which is pretty much the opportunity to re-shuffle based on your seniority. We need more pilots for sure and I think if you can survive a couple years on Fo pay you will be in a descent place.

I don't think Silver is a bad place depending on what you are looking for and a 2 year upgrade wouldn't be unrealistic but that would be the soonest in my opinion. As far as commuting, depends on the base. Out stations in the ATL, IAD, and CLE system tough to say the least, but ATL and IAD themselves not bad, however these are reserve only basses. Silver has potential but this potential depends on what your career goals and QOL expectations are. |
