Default Commutair Bases / Commuting

I have just taken a offer with Commutair. I'll be in the september class due to an issue with the new ATP rule, but I am weighing my options. I would like CLE because of QOL, but they said in the interview that it is senior and more likely I will get EWR or IAD. Anyone know how long it would take to hold CLE?

I am also considering commuting from CLT if I do get IAD or EWR, how difficult of a commute would that be. Sorry for all the questions, this is my first 121 job so I am still learning with all this commuting stuff.

Look you already got your little avatar too!

Anyway, I got hired there but took another class instead (this was well before their new contract and the pay was down low).. There's been changes that's for sure.

CLE is Hq and senior from what I understand. Probably shouldn't take you more than a 6 months to hold anything. Upgrade is 2 years and will go lower. Commutair captains have gone to CAL in the past and more probably will again.

Junior base for FO's right now is CLE. You'll probably be on reserve your first 3 or 4 months so you'll need a crashpad at first no matter where you get based. CLE is by far the base with the lowest cost of living but crashpad prices are compalarable.

If I can hold CLE right away I'll move there. its if I get EWR or IAD i'm thinking of commuting.

Sounds like you live in CLT.. iad has 8 flights per day on psa/mesa so that would be an easy commute. EWR would give more options (Usair/united) but its ewr so expect delays. Btw, did you apply at psa? We have a clt base.

You will be able to hold CLE fast. Most of the next, oh 85% of the upgrades will be FO's from CLE. I'd say within three months you should be able to get CLE. Movement there is very slow fyi. Commuting wise id do IAD. EWR the delays will cause you to miss a handful of commutes home. Welcome PM me if you have any questions..

I would avoid IAD and anything associated with United there. Most incompetent group of ground personnel in the business

You haven't been to GUM. It's IAD on island time.

Yes ground personnel is bad in iad. However, unless there are storms iad rarely has delay programs. In ewr, as a commuter, you are looking at a lot of headaches as far as delays and cancellations. Ewr has a a gdp every single day, and when a bird sneezes you will see ground stops, pull down cancellations from SOCC, usually around noon until 9pm. If you get ewr, you will lose a lot of qol as a commuter, sacrificing full days off on both sides of reserve blocks and trips trying to get to work. Trust me, been there done that, not a fan. That said, ewr does have a lot of daily flights from CLT...then again, so does iad.
