I interviewed with them back in 05. I wasn't impressed. Particularly the part where they wanted you to pay for your type rating and didn't offer any relocation benefits. Don't know about QOL or other factors... the failure to pay for initial (16K) and pay (below standard, particularly for the area) was enough to turn me off.

I'm based at vny. I think at lacy it is going depend on what aircraft you are getting hired for. If its their charter department then its the 35 year old lears. For me that would be a no thanks. If its for a clients managed aircraft then it might be worth doing.

I hear the pay isnt that great. Living in LA is really expensive. The quality of life in LA is pretty bad if you dont make serious coin. Which means you will be living about an hour drive from the airport during peak traffic. So you better have a comfortable car, because you are going to spend a lot of time in it.

On 80K you can live ok. If you have a family you will need about 100K to make it. Thats what it will take to get a house in a good area. Read good schools. Its like Tijuana north there, dirty and quite a lot of gang activity there.

There are a lot of other charter operators at vny, bur, ont, smo, sna and lgb so you may have more options than you realize down in the LA area.

Agreed. Clay is a scab pilot and everyone knows that. Plus, his ProPilot articles suck - they couldn't be more formulaic. He never says a negative comment about a potential advertiser in that mag - yeah, real objective there Clay...

I wouldn't do it unless I could get some Gulfstream time (GII or GIV). Avoid the junky Lears. Once you get Gulfstream time you are worth a lot more in that town.

You could'nt be more right about the Gulfstream time. It will make you real valuable. Plus VNY should be called Gulfstream West. From II's to V's, they are all out there.

Thumbs down Super Scab

R J Pilot & Bill Lumberg are both correct. Clay Lacy did scab at United and his reputation matches that of the "dedicated" scabs. That is the type of person you're thinking about working for.

Just my two cents.....

Light the burner and get out of town !!

Anybody have info regarding his retirement issue about his age? Story was that he lied about his age way back. Then when retirement day came, he didnt want to go. So he made a big case about it to have the records changed so he could stay #1 in senority for another year or so.
