Airnet

Got a buddy whos looking into Airnet and he was telling me one of the people he talked to on the phone about an interview told him that prop captains were making minimum of 28k a year?? This true? Also, how senior is the caravan there?

Iflyfr8 05-19-2008 12:38 PM

It's $28017.6 to the dime. You'll make 13.47 an hour. 80 hr guarantee pr. paycheck (every two weeks). Prop airplanes are not assigned by seniority, but by company need and what run/base you end up with.

GL,

If you get hired with 135 mins you will get a $3000 check for captain and $1500 for SIC. So if you are close, stay where your at and get the 3K or try to get in know and get 1.5K, either way your getting multi time, but senority is what rules in this industry. The longer you wait the farther from a Lear spot you become if thats what may interest you. Its all personal choice. I'm pretty sure airnet is going to be hiring alot more pilots in the coming months. Out of class, you either get Baron, Navajo, or Caravan, depending on whats available.

How close are you? If you go into their SIC program to build time toward the 1200 hour mark, they want to get you there as quickly as possible. When I was there they were putting SIC's on the high time Baron runs. Most were 4 day runs with 4 to 6 legs per night, but there were quite a few runs that had a 5th day. You could count on anywhere between 80 and 100 hours a month. This may have changed since I left... especially if they have an excessive number os SIC's in the program. I had heard a rumor that they may start putting SIC's in the Navajo's, but never heard anything to confirm that information.

I went to AirNet with about 1250 hours, and to be honest I was a bit overwhelmed after training when I went right to the line. I did get a little bit of IOE, but didn't really get as much time to absorb the flow of things as an SIC would. After a grand total of 2 nights of ride-along with another pilot, I got the "...please report to dispatch page". Take this Baron, load it with that stuff and go to Cleveland and Detroit. This was the standby Baron... two-bladed props, RNAV (no GPS), monochrome weather radar and coffee-grinder king kx-170 radios. Most fun I'd had in a while... especially once I figured out which way it was to Cleveland! I had a great time at AirNet, put some valuable and educational time in my logbook and moved on to a job flying Lear 35's with self loading cargo (135 passenger charter).

Airnet Ground Control

Just out of curiosity; does AirNet have a ramp tower they communicate with in LCK? (Or is all movement controlled by LCK ground)

No there is no ramp tower. The entire area where AirNet, UPS, Lane aviation and "the terminal" is located is a non movement area.

What year and a half contract?? Its only one year. Pretty much anywhere you go, you are probably gonna sign some kind of contract. How do you think a company helps protect their investment in you and all training costs involved? 1 year of your life to get some great experience is not a lot of time.

rickB 06-04-2008 01:18 PM

well id be doing the sic program so the one year doesnt start until i hit 1200 hours.. im liking the multi pic i get from instructing right now and i dont really prefer to be flying night shifts all week long but who knows maybe i would like it once i got into it,,

withthatsaid182 06-04-2008 02:41 PM

on one part of their website they say that pilots can now pick domiciles...is this true?

If you do not want to fly nights, Airnet is not for you.

jelloy683 06-05-2008 07:55 AM

What kind of nav equipment do Airnet's planes have? HSI, GPS? Dual VOR's?

Out of all prop aircraft (barons, navajos, caravans) 97% have HSI, I think theres like 1 or 2 barons that don't, 95% have GPS (theres about 4 different kinds of GPS) and all have dual VOR's. Remember these aircraft were acuired over many years from different operators so however they were equiped, its how they are.

I totally agree.... don't waste Airnet's time or yours.

bradeku1008 06-05-2008 02:26 PM

Sitting in a pool at an Airline. Thinking about going to Airnet but I only have 900 TT and 40 ME. What is this SIC program I am reading about? Does anyone have any info about this and Airnet; Pay, QOL, etc...

IlliniPilot99 06-06-2008 08:53 AM

I'm in the exact same boat as you...thinking about airnet!

The SIC program is flying right seat in a Baron until you get your 1200 hours. You get paid to do this although not very much. You could anticipate 100 hours a month as an SIC. QOL of life is what you would expect for this type of flying. 70% of the flying is over night. You have a regular schedule working 4-5 nights a week. Most pilots have weekends off. Home everynight.

Pay... http://www.airnet.com/Careers/careersFrame.htm

bradeku1008 06-06-2008 04:45 PM

Yea, I put my stuff in today. I think it will be good and it will allow me to build up some time, gain some experience, then go back to the airlines when they are more stabe. Im in a pool at PSA and dont know if they are going to cut jobs? I guess we will find out soon.

Please don't think of Airnet as just a backup. You are flying demanding hours in demanding WX. Some people don't know what they are getting themselves into. I'm not sure if you are, but for anyone else just thinking about it to pass time remember that.

The Airlines are my #1 choice no doubt about it. But I think that Airnet would be good for me becasue it would allow me to build up the experience flying through poor weather and push myself to make decisions as a PIC. The way I feel about it is I will eventually end up as an airline pilot. But Airnet could be a way of advancing my skills and help me get through the down times at the airlines.

Hot Rod Wannabe 06-08-2008 05:39 PM

What are Air Net's Minimums?

Just curious does Airnet really have low minimums being a 135 carrier?

bradeku1008 06-08-2008 05:52 PM

Yea, They have an SIC program. All you have to have are the ratings

rickB 06-09-2008 12:15 PM

dont forget about the training contract....

IlliniPilot99 06-09-2008 01:12 PM

talked to matt today, sounded realy nice, says the SIC program is totally still going on. Says they're stocked with PIC's and want SIC's. Says I was competitive with my times of 520 and 70...also said I should get a phone call soon..really hopeing I get a chance to interview!

LucasM 06-09-2008 01:23 PM

that's awesome! Airnet is where i plan on going. i've only got like 290TT and 120ME. granted i'm going to have to instruct soon, but if 520 is competitive, that makes me feel a lot better. i was thinking it would be more like 800-900. have you done that familiarization flight yet? on mine we flew out of BNA to SDF to LCK and then back to SDF and BNA in the navajo. it was pretty sweet. 180kts gs, autopilot, gps. not a bad way to fly if you ask me.

bradeku1008 06-09-2008 04:47 PM

Im kinda on the edge, I really want to start working for the airlines. But the experience with Airnet would be great, and I could always go back and work for PSA. Affraid of getting in a contract and then PSA calls a class date and Im locked in at Airnet . Dang Contract.

Lucas, Who do you contact for a familiarization flight?

LucasM 06-09-2008 07:40 PM

I talked with Walter Robinson. He's one of the pilot recruiters. Seems like a nice guy to talk to on the phone, obviously since he wants you to fly for them. The pilot I flew along with was extremely knowledgeable and the aircraft, although not the prettiest, is very well maintained. When the aircraft arrive at the Airnet base at LCK, a maintenence person comes and inspects the aircraft for anything out of the ordinary. If something is broken, it is fixed on the spot. If I remember right, they also do their 100 hour inspections something like every 50 hours I believe. I was extremely impressed.

Besides if you fly for Airnet as a prop captain, you'd be making more money and getting more hours than if you were at PSA anyways, on reserve no less!

Plus you're home every night......er morning rather! I worked for a small 135, but we were home 95% of the time or better.

IlliniPilot99 06-10-2008 07:59 AM

The more I think about it, the more I want to be a part of it! I'm going to call and see if I can arrange a FAM flight.

LucasM 06-10-2008 09:05 AM

Let us know how it goes.

bradeku1008 06-10-2008 12:00 PM

Got a call today for a phone interview. Turned into an arrangement for a FAM flight Thursday out of Cincinnati. I have to call back on Friday to finish the phone interview. Sounds like a great company

LucasM 06-10-2008 12:56 PM

i wonder if they do more than 1 FAM flight? i kinda want to go on another 1 haha
