How slim are my chances of getting hired with 1,335TT, 1,100 Multi, 1,000 turbine, 1,100 xc, 220 instrument, and 210 night? Be kind... :o

Not the best, we're pretty well stocked with FO's right now. Anything's possible though, at Cape it has more to do with whether you will be a good fit with the company than it does time (after meeting min's of course). There's probably a pool though . . .

At the risk of spreading false hope, if we get the STL eas routes there will probably be some hiring.

Really? I thought we were hurting for FOs.

NightIP 09-02-2009 08:02 AM

I know that there are very few FOs hanging around in BOS these days. Many have upgraded recently. In fact, one of the junior CAs had to fly right seat for someone the other day because there weren't any FOs around.

Exactly. Seems like we have a bunch until an A/P gets deferred

Speedbird172 09-02-2009 08:40 AM

What are the FO/mail pilot bases? Do they bid the same as the CAs or does the bidding only begin once you make CA? I interviewed last week and got the call the other day, waiting for a class date (maybe in about a month or so). Looking forward to it!

The mail flights only operate out of Hyannis. I think most of the mail pilots live near here but it's obviously not required as long as you can get here. That first flight is pretty early, though. The mail line isn't bid on, it's an in-between step for time building.

We have FOs based in the major cities in each region we operate in but I don't know how the bidding works. Maybe one of the pilots can shed aome light.

Congrats! :)

Mail pilots fly strictly out of HYA (it's a HYA-ACK run), and FOs are mostly based in the major hubs. BOS, SJU, HYA, ALB, RSW, with a couple based in LEB. I'm not sure if there are FOs in all those bases right now, but that's just where I've seen them based before. And yeah, FOs bid for their lines just like CA, but the bids come out at different times for some reason.

Good luck in class!

EDIT: Looks like DeskDriver types faster than me. :D

That's why I drive the desk and you drive the plane!

Speedbird172 09-02-2009 08:59 AM

Thanks guys! This has probably been beat to death, but what do those folks do for housing while waiting to upgrade, for instance if it's only going to be 150 hours or so? Are there month-to-month rentals near HYA? I'm sure I'll get this stuff figured out in class but just trying to plan things out a bit.
