Default 297 Check

Quick question... is a failed 135.297 check considered a failed checkride and shown on your FAA records or is it just an unsatisfactorily and only in company records? Thanks!

I've heard arguments both ways.

If the check is with a company check airman, if you fail a task, they can take off the check airman hat, put on the training captain hat, retrain the task and then recheck it immediately. There is an unsat annotation that is then marked across and annotated as a Sat and the final ride is annotated as SAT, so it's not reportable.

The other argument is that if you were flying for an operator that was so small that check rides have to be administered by an FAA examiner, if you fail a task you would fail the ride. The person who told me this interpretation was arguing that if it is a fail in one case, it should be a reportable fail in the other.

I know this doesn't really help, but it shows the range of thought on the subject.
