Companies hiring pilots with 500 TT
I'm a commercial pilot ASEL/AMEL, instrument rated,CFI, and MEI. I have 500TT, 167 Multi, 79 Instrument, and a Bachelor's Degree. I have been applying everywhere and cannot find a hit. I'm highly considering getting the CFII, yet money is tight. Does anyone know of any company (whether it is banner towing, mapping, or even flight instructing) that would be willing to hire someone with my experience. I am willing to take anything to build my hours. Seems like most places want 1000 hrs TT and pt. 61 schools want someone with 1000 hrs of dual given for instruction. Any help or clues would be greatly appreciated.

northern states is looking for mapping pilots for their 172s.... about the only thing I have seen with that sorta time.
|
ya i applied there the other night.waiting to hear back.
|
Look into a job flying skydivers.. I was in the same boat as you, with 540 total time, and now im logging around 30-40hrs a week..
|
Tried the military? Best pay/benefits/flying out there.
|
Why wouldn’t you already have you CFII?? What if someone wants to do some instrument work... Can you afford to miss an opportunity?

Don't just apply. Companies are getting thousands of applications right now they have to sift through. Put a face/voice with a resume. Make a personal contact. |

As many have said around the forums the Military is not a place to go to build time for a potential airline career. You will be a military officer and leader first, pilot second, family man after (if you have a family). I have the privleage of working with many different pilots of all sorts of airframes. The economy is hitting us in the military as well. Heavy pilots are being beaten down, used and abused so to speak with no real relief insight. The aicraft are feeling it too. About the only airframes on the active duty side that arent beaten down are some of the fighters. I cant speak for the guard/reserves. Might be another option there There are Pro's and Con's to each avenue. I can give reasons all day why the military should not be an option. But being in the military I have also had oppurtunities to see certain things first hand. Grass is always greener. Keep your options open and enjoy whatever path you choose. Dont live life with regrets. Just make sure you do you homework no matter what option you pick |
do you know any sky diving outfits that are currently looking...........thanks for the help.

flyinfinn866,
I would recommend that you invest the time and money into getting your CFI/CFII/MEI. I feel that you will benifit from these ratings now, and down the road (provided you keep it current). You will learn a lot about yourself, human psychology, and most importantly help you to truely master your craft. That's just my 2 cents. By the way, where are you from? Perhaps it would be easier to give you suggestions if we knew your geographic location. Good luck, Laxrox43 |
Just my .02 but I would leave flying skydivers as the very last resort in your arsenal for building time. Most DZs could care less about you as a pilot. Speaking from experience here. Anyway, good luck and I would say get you CFII and MEI. Best time out there if you can get it.

Yes the Pay and benefits are decent, If you consider Tricare and Vitamin M a good medical plan. Granted those on flying status do get better treatment than those of us who arent.

Emergency room visits, surgery's, wifes care, etc. In 10 years I haven't spent a dime. |
I currently reside in Green Lake, WI which is an hour or so NNE of Madison. However, I am willing to relocate for any job where I can build some hours.
|
Be careful about moving for a job. A lot of operators say they are growing by leaps and bounds. Most are having trouble paying the bills. I recently got shorted a months pay by one. I ended up with another job that paid better just because of dumb luck. That is the only reason I am still able to pay the bills. Network where you are. The cost is a lot lower and you know the area. I use to study at the airport and shake hands with anyone that walked in the door. That resulted in some PA32R301 time and SR22 that I wouldn't have had any other way. It also got me a couple instrument and commercial students.

If you do that, you'll never get hired. Call them, persue them. Make it know you want to work there. |
I noticed a job posting on Climbto350 the other day for Pacific Wings hiring FOs in Caravans with 300-1100 hours. I have heard less than great things about that company, but I guess if you need to build hours you have to pay your dues. The job description sounds like in addition to the SIC you are also a ramper, agent, fueler, baggage loader, etc... Just thought I would put it out there for people who are looking for a job.

be careful, i had a buddies that worked there
AT WILL EMPLOYER they can fire you "just cuz" |
Pacific Wings and Georgia Skies are run by the same outfit and they are both known for their poor treatment of pilots. At least a year ago when the last round of complaints was made, and there have been several, they seemed to have the attitude that pilots are expendable. Those threads can be located using the search window at the upper left.
thread 1 thread 2 |
Most companies want a higher level of experience but try the regionals.

air cargo carriers is hiring and you meet their mins. They;re based out of Milwaukee
|
They want 2500TT
|
I applied for the Pacific Wings job in that job site. They listed "NO Calls" on the ad, but should I call them anyways? It's been 2 weeks since I applied.

Any idea if Northern States still hires this late in the season and if they are 100% firm on 500TT?

Haha, I am glad someone else noticed it. I go away for something, come back and see 10 updated threads by blade. 9:07, 9:08, 9:11, 9:17. Someone really wants the ability to use PMs :)

::into loud speaker::
Dude! Step away from the keyboard! You do not want to do this! Seriously, I am not trying to flame bait(serious!) but your posts went from slightly informative (But just repeating what others said) to just going "Me too!" Welcome to the boards and all, I know it's great to get some fresh blood, but chillllllll |
I do not know the exact list of criteria but post count is only one of several used to determine when the PM function kicks in. Best thing is to participate normally (and responsibly) and not worry about getting PMs. Every so many weeks someone new joins and wants to beat the system, but all they really do is get blue in the face. It takes several days.

Hey guys,
I actually live in Central Texas (Ft. Worth) have about 550TT with about 270ish ME. I'm looking for a job flying, however I'm also debating getting my instructors' licenses. I was thinking possibly ATP, however as most of us starting out, money is incredibly tight. I would love some feed back and help! Thanks! R |
Get the CFI. You need more time for the ATP. You'll thank yourself when that first furlough notice arrives.
