Default Flying with Pets

Hey all,

Does anyone have experience taking their pets on flights in a PA-28 or C-172 or something of the like? Trying to convince my girlfriend her cat will be okay on a trip we have coming up. Any input would be great, thanks!

Bringing a cat with you in a plane is definitely NOT a good idea. They usually are scared to death when you put them in a care, I wouldn't even consider putting any of my cats in a plane...

Some actually do okay, but some don't. Keep the animal in a crate and take it up for a few minutes and see how it does. There's no way I'd have the animal on board and uncrated, obviously.

The following is not cat advice; it is relationship advice:

As a long time cat owner, I find the likelihood the cat will enjoy the ride to be very low. You are "...Trying to convince [her] her cat will be okay..." That is ominous.

Have you considered the consequences if you are successful in convincing your girlfriend then you traumatize her cat?

Dogs yes (ours even has "mutt muffs" for hearing protection, and just curls up next to mom), cats probably not. Do you want to risk your plane smelling like cat pee?

Here's an example of the mutt muffs:

And one for fun

Impressive! Looks like the animal's temperament should be taken into account. Also, the OP is going to be in a loud, unpressurized bug smasher

Heres' a video.

I know of a number of people that fly with their pets. The big thing is in General Aviation is Propellers. Animals can walk or run into them. Not unheard of.

If you do any flying with pets it would probably best be done when they are young so that they can get acclimated to it.
