Flight Instructors
Flight Instructors Needed.
Lightning Aviation in Foley, Alabama is presently hiring Flight Instructors for the military IFS program. Our function is to teach primary flight to the Marine Corps and Navy. You will fly 1,000 or more hours a year as a flight instructor and you will be paid for flight and ground training. Average monthly flight and ground training is 150 hours. Pay is $20.00 per hour for new instructors and higher is possible for experienced instructors.

I thought the same when I read the hourly wage...$25 used to be the norm in my area without the I-I then it crept up to 30-35 with both.
Either way you cut it, it's a way to gain great experience and build hours while making invaluable contacts. If you can survive on the wages, then go for it...no different than the regionals where these poor souls may end up eating crap for more years and making due on just as much or less.
I don't know how feasible 150/month is unless you live in a car and charge for every single minute though. Not much time to enjoy those sandy beaches that seem to be the clencher!

Foley and the surrounding area is a very cheap place to live. You would do just fine on $36k/year. The student load is steady and nearly guaranteed. The IFS program has been in place for 12 years now and seems to be a good investment for the Navy.
You will likely only be teaching students for their first 25-30 hrs of flight time, you won't have to prepare them for a checkride, and no, you probably won't make any good contacts. You may meet some drinking buddies, but that's about it.
