The vacancies aren't posted until the beginning of the month with the class. At that point any pilots can bid on the vacancies and you guys get what is left. Every base is fairly short right now so you can count on lots of openings. They will open one spot for every person in the class.

Sorry, I'm new to this but one more question.. If you don't get the base you want in training, but keep your bid as is, then the base comes open the beginning of the next month, then after your five or six weeks of training you could conceivably get the base you wanted before ever getting out on the line? Thanks.

Thanks. These vacancy bids are every month? And also, say there's a May 10th class--That means in class we won't pick our bases until June first?

No, not every month, just when they need to create vacancies for new hires or shuffle people around to fill voids left by people leaving. There's no science to when they put one out, but generally one will be published and awarded before a new hire gets out of training.

When I went through training we didn't get our base assignments until the week before we were done, so it all depends on when your class starts. And that is right, it isn't done every month, but with the rate they are holding new hire classes you can expect that there will be one every month until it slows down.
