OSA MWT test
Anyone have experience with a sleep Doc that insists on an MWT before giving a letter of clearance for you to take to your AME in order to continue with an SI medical. I know that's a lot of acronyms but anybody who's been through this will know what I'm talking about. My first renewal of my SI for sleep apnea is coming up and my sleep doc insists on the MWT test before she'll sign me off. My numbers are great but she still insists on the MWT, problem is my wonderful insurance (Delta-United Healthcare) wont pay for it. Ill be damned if i'm paying $3500 for this test which seems like a total PITA. Do I press to test with Delta or find a new sleep Doc. FAA doesn't seem to care. Anyone else been down this road?

For your SI you should only have to provide the tests/reports that the FAA requires and nothing else. Providing "extra" information may hurt your case. Find someone who might be familiar with the conditions of your SI (as per the authorization). Now if all of them want the MWT then you have little choice. Ask your AME if there is someone else you can go to.

Thanks for the reply, but my SI specifically requires three items that must be satisfied in order to continue:
1. Certification from me that treatment is effective and I am symptom-free.
2. Computer printouts for 12 months that show compliance (hrs/day usage).
3. Certification from "treating physician" that I am compliant and the treatment is effective and I am symptom-free.
The problem is that my sleep doc refuses to write a letter (#3) without a MWT test. She knows the FAA doesn't require it but she says she does.
My question to all those out there with a Sleep apnea SI is- Do your sleep docs require a MWT? I'm going to start shopping for a new Sleep doc if there are some out there that don't require it. I'm just trying to figure out if this is common or I just happened to pick a strange one. Thanks

thanks jet. Yeah as I understand it, it's a real PITA. I assume I'll pass but if I don't I don't know what will happen. I don't see any upside to doing this and potentially a lot of downside. Thanks again
