Default Who Likes Fish?

Flying the international routes, I'm always looking for "emergency rations" that I can carry with me and have if I wake up at 2AM on a layover and nothing is open (if you've been there you know what I'm talking about).

My requirements are:
  • The food must not be perishable and it must have a reasonable shelf life.
  • It must be nutritious (and taste better than a power bar).
  • It can't take up too much room.

I've recently been carrying the new "pouch" packaged Tuna fish and works great. The product doesn't have all the juice that cans do, and it packs very well.

Check it out: http://www.starkist.com/ click Product>Flavor Fresh Pouch

Somehow Tuna just doesn't sound appealing at 0200. I usually have some Fig Newtons with me for those times I get the munchies early in the morning.

I'm not sure of the brand (I think it might be bumblebee), but there is a new line of Tuna that comes pre-prepared in different flavors and such... there's lemon pepper and soy-ginger. They are all pretty good.

I also carry around packets of instant soup (the higher grade stuff than liptons) and the small cans of fruit or jello.

That's Starkist, and the flavored ones are pretty good in a roll-up. I'm in Narita and I've got the Bumblebee packs which aren't bad (even at 0220 if you're hungry enough). Between the Tuna and Pria bars, finding food on the backside of the clock isn't an emergency.

For those late night "emergencies" I used to carry some of the packets from the newer MRE's (Of course they were easier to come by since I was in the national guard...). There are actually a few that taste quite good (no comment on the health aspects though- very high on sodium...)

Don't forget to put some of this on your fish too It's a commercial about soy sauce, amazingly enough. If you've had a layover in Japan you've probably adjusted to nonsense like this.

MRE's are great, they contain about 2500 calories, they refuse to exit your body after consuming, and after sitting on your arse all day you will definately figure out what the velcro on you fllight suit is for.

Oh come on people! Doesn't anyone else see the potential in this quote? how about:

What about after 10 beers?
Well maybe, if she doesn't stay long.
At least it's better than beef stick.

Where are the comedians out there?

Typhoonpilot is right going for a can of tuna at 0200 and ending up with a beefstick is not appealing at all.
