I knocked off regular sodas and avoid sugar as much as possible. I dropped about 20 pounds, and that's the only lifestyle change I made.
I found if I reduced my carbs by too much I'd run out of energy on my longer(7 miles) runs.

Default Humor.. The Purina Diet

I was in Pet-Smart buying a large bag of Purina for my German Shepherd and was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy behind her.

Horrified, she asked if I'd been poisoned and was that why I was in the hospital.

I said no.....I'd been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.

I thought the tall guy was going to have to be carried out the door.

The best laugh I've had in a long while. Thanks!! I can totally see that woman envisioning you reaching into your pockets to munch.

If you want to blame something, blame high fructose corn syrup. It's cheaper than sugar, so the companies use it. It's also a much more complex carbohydrate which takes much longer to burn.

Eat more veggies and less pre-packaged and processed food. I did this, and dropped my Pepsi intake by about 80% and lost about 25 pounds in a month. I got lazy and started eating junk food and drinking more soda and the result is that I'm no 5 pound heavier than I was before the experiment with no change in lifestyle or diet otherwise.

I recommend those rice cakes, eaten slowly, to curb that binge mood.
