Backpain from flying?
#1
Anybody have problem with backpain flying? Any remedies like special cushions, etc..?
I've been CFI for too long, it's probably bad seats from 172/152...or my bad sitting position...

The seats in Embraers aren't any good. I know a number of people that fly with a seat cushion. On long legs I get uncomfortable but usually making sure my wallet is out of my back pocket is enough. I might get one of these:

Back pain, front pain, side pain, neck pain, all of the above
Talk about uncomfortable seats! I guess depending on your size you wouldn't even able to use a seat chusion in the C-152/172 huh?
PiS - how long is your regular instructional flight?

Make sure your pants are not tight at the waist. Incorporate some ab work in your gym routine, and don't forget reverse abs.
Pillows can help, but strong abs and lower back seem to work well in any seat.

surely you do not have anything in your back pockets... a thick pilot wallet will defeat even the best seat.

Okay, I've seen two posts regarding wallets. Good idea, but remember the guy's a CFI. Wallet thickness isn't a problem.

Most everyone seems to blame the airplane seat, and maybe (probably) there's something to that. It's one link in a long chain, though. Mine hurts sometimes, but it's getting better. Identifying the problem was difficult. It was basically too much running (my posture was TOO good - too upright), but once it got sore EVERYTHING I did wrong would aggravate it. Overuse, too much sitting (airplane or otherwise), lifting wrong, sleeping wrong, etc. I started trying do everything right, and it worked eventually - but at my age improvement is slow. Be careful and be patient. The seat cushions and lower back support will help, I'm sure.

Carefully, and if it makes you sore, stop until your back is a lot better - or you'll make things worse. It's a great thing to do before you develop problems, though.

Errr, can you be a bit more specific?
