And as a prop, my BMI was always horrendous. That being said, I could run circles around most.....as long as they were small circles.

Were you a fat prop or just a big prop?

So I've been working out at the fitness place for 4 weeks now. 20-40 minutes on cardio and 30 minutes on weight machines. I asked to use the Fat Machine again, and it said my body fat percentage is higher by .02%. However, I feel better and clothes fit better, so that dang machine has to be defective or needs a new battery!

I've talked to many people and nobody thinks that I am obese. Henceforth, I will say that I am Curvy.

My BMI always tends to the top of the normal range and lately I am a bit over it again (26), but it is pretty accurate for me as a scale and I use it as a check on body fat and overall fitness. As HSLD points out the BMI scale fails at the ends of the bell curve and I have an Air Force pal who runs marathons with 6 pack abs and legs like tree trunks, but he can't get his score down to 25 to save his life. His best is about 26, all clearly all muscle so lower than that is clearly unhealthy for him. He talks about abnormally high body density, and I believe he is correct. Me on the other hand... it ain't muscle it's fat, and the best fitness score for me is around 6ft & 180 lbs or about 24.5 BMI except I like to eat too much, so it often goes a bit higher before I catch it. If I am under 200 I make peace with the whole thing.

My wife likes the word "Voluptuous".

Try crossfit. It's a great fitness program. Stay away from machines...

I really have questions about those machines' "methodology". The best way to measure body fat is the caliper method, but only when it's done by someone with expertise. That's unlikely to occur in a fitness center.

In any case the cure is the same. Keep working out and eating right and the weight and inches will come off. After four weeks you are reaching the point where you can sustain a real workout. Keep pushing yourself (slightly) and you'll start to see real results.

If you reach the point, though, where you wake up and dread going to the gym, turn things down a notch or try a different routine. Hang in there!

When you apply the term to other women I'll bet she doesn't like it as much!
