Not all that close to LAX, but close to VNY. If you have wheels, about a 40 minute drive. Dr Ed Shore, 818-783-4800. A little closer to LAX, near SMO, is Dr Joe Knotz (good name for a flight doc - knots), 310-828-6027.

Have used both. Quick and painless.

Check in Thousand Oaks, for a Dr. Doody, he took over Fred Goldstein's practice, Fred was one of the most pro pilot AME's that has ever been.. As far as Ed. Shore, I stopped using him in 1983....He took the eye test a bit too seriously, and I quote "You guys that fly for a living, there can't be anything wrong with you no matter how small,You really have to be perfect if you are an airline pilot." I got glasses to satisfy him that day, then for my next physical changed AME, never had another problem with vision....Which I might add included a pre-employment 2 day physical at the Mayo clinic, and to this day I do not have to wear glasses on my medical.....Re read that quote and see if you really want Dr. Shore with your ticket in his hands, with that attitude.

I second Dr. Doody, but he usually only works the first two weeks of the month. I've been going to him since 1994.

Unfortunately I just heard that Dr. Joe Knotz passed away. He was a great AME- You would stand against the wall, cover an eye with your hand, read the chart. Read the colored numbers off his iPhone, he would listen to your chest and you were out of there with certificate in hand.
Anyone have a recommendation for a "pro pilot" AME in the LA area?
