Colitis
#1
Hey everyone,
Been having stomach issues for the past 3 months. Just recently got a colonoscopy, doctor says I have colitis. Just started taking Asacol HD. I will be seeing the GI doctor in about a week after a biopsy report to see what kind of colitis I have.
Currently a 26 year old student pilot with a commercial cert. Just about to do my cfi.
Is it worth it keep on flying with this condition?
I spent over a year fighting the FAA with my childhood condition of ADD/ADHD with over a thousand dollars to get my 1st class.
Is this going to be another speed bump for me?
If anyone has this condition PM me. I dont know what to do right now with my career. Thanks.

That sucks, sorry to hear it. I hope your doc has good news for you. There are so many medical conditions that can ground us, it's a wonder we're not all grounded. The most experienced pilot in my family was grounded by Diabetes, was a hard one for him to accept.

Call your AME, Steve. You can also find out if your med is approved, and, if not, what alternatives are available.

Lots of us have colitis. There are many forms of it. Getting your first medical after the diagnosis can be a pain but very doable. There are specialized drs that can help push through your medical the first time after that it is "no change" on the medical app.

Do not have the J pouch surgery if you can control the colitis with diet and asacol. The next medication would be some type of steroid treatment, this is not an approved treatment by the FAA. As far as diet goes look for a book titled "Stopping the viscous Cycle". The diet outlined in this book cured my issues with colitis 15 years ago.
