Default Class Drops

Hey all. Starting to get my apps to the regionals and I wondered about the chances of a DAY base out of training? I thought I had read a post about DAY being senior, but I can't find the thread. I live in central Ohio with my wife and 2 kids and I don't want to move due to my wife's job. If DAY is not likely, are there any good commuting options for PSA from CLE or CMH?

Thanks!

As of now DAY out of training isn’t really a reality, we just had a few of the JR guys that were DAY based get displaced to PHL and DCA. Sounds like it’ll take a few months out of training before being able to hold DAY. Once OCT rolls around and we have more movement going on it might speed up the process of getting to DAY but to be honest who really knows. I know for CMH has multiple flights to the other bases throughout the day and Cleveland also has multiple flights to CLT and PHL

Day is going to be senior for a long time on the captain side, but the FO situation is resolving. Unless (until?) they close it, you are not going to have a problem being there quickly. Maybe not immediately, but quickly.

The problem with Dayton if you aren’t immediately local is the same problem I had with Knoxville (RIP). There are many extremely early shows (4:15am) and late returns (11pm) that means if you’re driving more than 45 minutes you’re in for some pain. I now commute to Charlotte and it’s so much nicer being able to have all late shows and early returns…although it would be even nicer to not commute but that’s another topic.

Interesting. Thank you for that, much appreciated.

Also to add, your credit also take a hit with commuter trips. I always found that the outbase trips with early shows, late finishes, always filled with 2 hour sits allotted better credit for the trips because of those FFD and go-home legs. At least that how it was when I was at ORF.

Those trips are great for those who are local like I was living 20 mins door to door from the airport.

How commutable are the trips in bases like PHL and CLT? In a non-COVID world how long was it to hold a line in either?

Clt lines are generally commutable

time to hold line is exquisitely sensitive to pilot turnover and line growth… who the heck knows

Probably between 1-3 years

I live in the CLT area so definitely gonna bid for it, but how commutable would PHL vs DCA be from there in case I don’t get Charlotte right away?
