Based on them hiring 60+ pilots a month, will it not come to the point where they'll have too many pilots for the rate of aircraft coming in, or is attrition taking care of that on its own?

Yes there are pilots hired during the "boom" that are now flying round 1 lines, mostly in Dayton and Knoxville. It looks like there are a few guys from Sept classes that are still waiting on IOE but the wait time for everyone should be coming down with the addition of several more check airmen.

The hiring rate of 60+ per month will continue as long as we're taking delivery of 3 planes a month. That rate is needed to keep up with growth, upgrades, and attrition. When the fleet stops growing (currently projected to be Dec 2016), hiring will slow down of course but not stop. How much mainline revs up hiring will determine how much.

If PSA opens ORD, will it be JR or SR? Do you guys have a lot of Chicago area commuters?

I think anyone that attempts to answers this question will just be guessing. With that said, here is my (un)educated guess.

Charlotte is senior right now, and Charlotte is the base that most of the guys commuting choose as their base. With that said, I would not be surprised if many of those commuters chose to move to ORD so their relative seniority number in base would improve. I think that CLT would remain the most senior base in the system, but this will help reduce the seniority there for the new guys. As it is right now, you can hold any base within a month after IOE in the worst case scenario.

Anyone know current and projected timeframe from accepting employment to completion of IOE?

Well to give you an idea, I accepted employment Mid-October, started class November 10th and am still going through differences right now. I'm guessing I'll start OE at some point in March but who knows. More LCAs coming online will probably speed things up a bit like past posts have said.

It is pretty slow (4 months or so). Most of that time, however, you are home and getting paid. You also have flight benefits during that time. Enjoy some paid vacation time with free travel.

Agreed. It beats sitting reserve, paying for a crash pad. It ain't like a reservist will break guarantee anyway. Plus, the long wait is making your reserve time shorter and shorter.

I doubt you would have much problem getting it if you wanted it.

about 4 months, with almost half that sitting at home getting paid waiting on sims, differences, and/or IOE. Travel benefits are active from I think 14 days after DOH so it's a good time to go see people and places you might not otherwise Roadside America - Guide to Uniquely Odd Tourist Attractions
