At most airlines you can swap to basically whatever you want as long as you're within 117 rules and meet the reserve coverage requirements of your company(often called bad day/worse day). Last month I did 3 4-day trips, a day trip, a 2 day, and a 3 day.
My schedule this month initially had 4 day trips in addition to my vacation week. I was sick of being away for 4 days at a time so, with the exception of one I liked, I swapped my 4 day trips down to mostly 2 day trips and a 3 day and a 1 day. In the process I also picked up additional days to fly more and make extra money. It helps tremendously that I like in base. In the end I would up with 13 days off. Longest days off block I have is 4.

I'm a workaholic and I do often have trades/pickups blocked because it would make me illegal for some part of the months. My company's software looks at your entire month's schedule, so it'll block a trade/pick up if it would make you illegal for something already on your schedule later in the month.

I bid max block in seven days using PBS at OO and have received six days in a row with two days off. Typically I bid for four day trips; sometimes I have two days off and sometimes three days in between trips.
